This 499 gave me a chuckle when I saw it.
"Early SCHRADE 499 Stag Handle Fixed Blade Knife,Older than dirt,Solid & Sharp,NR
Seems knives are hot, so I'll go with the flow.
From my New York stock, an old 499 U.S.A. Schrade. I know they made this number over the years in all sorts
of variants, this has got to be one of the earliest. Brass butt, screwed in very tight, brass guard, slightest wiggle to guard, note toning to blade, but stag horn handle is without cracks, bit faded from age, evenly so, I am tempted to put some anhydrous lanolin on it, but no, as is as found.
8 9/16 inches long, original tip, doesn't look to have been sharpened."
What's wrong with this picture? Comedic custom.

The 499 is the same as the older 137, or at least close. The hideous monstrosity on ebay has the guard upside down. The handle has been installed at the wrong angle. When the original knife, the 137 or 499 was being sold by Schrade it was a stupid fad pattern, but, of course, a valid collectible today.

Correct! Kinda hard to miss. Guard sticks out (up) like a sore thumb. "hideous monstrosity" matches my assessment.tongueriver wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2020 5:23 pm The 499 is the same as the older 137, or at least close. This is a wonderful feature for those that like to insert knives in sheaths backwards. Put the blade in backwards and the guard is facing the correct direction. Problem solved.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
