I Was so Bored...

Post by orvet »

Boredom seems to be a common issue for everyone who is stuck at home during the lock down for the corona virus. I started looking at things I need to clean up in my shop and a few Works-In-Progress that have been setting for months (or years) without being completed. I have been dealing with some health issues too so I haven't been able to spend a lot of time in my shop, just a few minutes here and there. But I was able to finish up a few projects.

This is a Wards Master Quality knife that was made by Western. It had the celluloid insert in the middle of the handle, which was pretty but also deadly when they start to off gas. I got this one in a trade with Cal and he pointed out to me the handle spacers on either side of the celluloid insert. He said they were some of the nicest ones he had seen in terms of their color, quantity and the quality of the rings themselves. I wanted to do something a little different to make this knife stand out in spite of the pitting on the blade from the offgassing. I replaced the celluloid insert with Amber bone that had been jigged to look like impala horn. I was pretty happy with the results. The old thin leather of the factory sheath was badly worn, so I used it as a pattern and made a new sheath out of heavier leather.

I will be posting some more boredom projects as I have time.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.

I like it Dale. That bone looks like the perfect fit for this knife.

That one is a real “looker”!
I’m not into fixed blades, haven’t carried one in years, but this one really got my attention.
Glad you’re feeling good enough to continue your great skills.

That Impala-jigged bone is beautiful. Great job! I like that you left the slight pitting on the blade instead of over-sanding it. And that sheath looks factory made!

Great work, Dale! I like how the Impala jigged bone looks like finger grooves. ::tu::

Excellent work on the sheath too! ::tu::
