Shenandoah show cancelled for the year
I got a sad e-mail yesterday saying the big Shenandoah Valley Knife Show in Harrisonburg, VA has been cancelled for the year. It had been scheduled for the first week in April and re-scheduled to June 12-14 but has now been cancelled for the year. The club has decided it is too dangerous to have a big show with vendors and collectors from all over the country gather with the possibility of spreading the virus all over. Smart move, but there is nothing I would rather do than spend a few days at this large quality knife show. Hope to see some of you there next spring!!

Re: Shenandoah show cancelled for the year
SMKW does/did Case Days out of big open air tents in their parking lot. Why couldn't a knife show be held the same way? And people could be required to stay 6' apart, and wear a mask if that makes everyone feel more safe. Vendors are usually at least 6' apart anyway.
Don't sneeze or cough on others, keep your distance from people you don't live with, wash your hands after public interactions and don't stick your fingers in your mouth.
I refuse to bury my head in a hole and hope this all blows over some year. Am I the only one trying to logically resume some sense of normality based on what the health care "professionals" say we need to do?

Sheesh guys, only trying to make a factual announcement to save some folks from driving over there for nothing. No need to make a political platform out of it. I am only a messenger, save your rhetoric for the SVKC who cancelled their own show without government intervention. Y'all probably wouldn't go to the show anyways. SVKC hasn't even informed their paid up vendors yet and I am sure some need to cancel hotel reservations before it gets much later. Anybody signed up, it's off.

I was going in April, then I was going in June, now I'm not going until next year . . . if that doesn't get cancelled too. I hit SVKCC and Mason Dixon shows each year because they're both a short drive for me.
People need to think outside the box to figure out how to make things happen; no politics, no blame, just a fact. We can all sit around playing the victim or figure out a solution, just my 2¢.

Re: Shenandoah show cancelled for the year
Perhaps we have met there if you go often. I have had two tables of antique and WW2 knives there for the last five or six years. Against the wall in the front room divider to the back room. I really like the show, used to go to Mason Dixon years ago to buy and trade but then it interfered with our big CT show here in the northeast. I like the Keystone Blade show in Lewisburg, PA at the end of February too. Regarding hiding, well I have been sick with the virus for over seven weeks, just being able to get around in the last week. I either got it from a dental visit or at a radiation place where I had to get a small procedure. Over 20,000 dead within a forty mile radius of my house which is 30 miles north of NYC yet I am surrounded by woods. I am 72 with COPD and it has been a tough fight, I pray it doesn't reach any of your communities. Viruses don't understand politics as you say and they do not discriminate who they take. In many areas it is heartbreaking to see mass deaths in veteran's homes and nursing homes, and this has happened in all states with a lot of cases. Dang I miss the Shenandoah show!!

Sorry to hear about this and I can only imagine how tough your situation is, especially with COPD to boot.
I was off on Friday and Tuesday, first days I haven't had to go to work since February. So I'm out in it daily, I support the local restaurants and I have a front row seat for how much this is costing everyone. At work, we're getting ready to spent a lot of money to redesign every employees' work area so when we finally are able to go from half staff to full staff we will be doing so as safely as possible. Telling people to stay home as a solution doesn't pay the mortgage and put food on the table. People have bills to pay, children to care for and jobs to do. Businesses who have had to close because of this have left people without healthcare and I can't imagine what they are dealing with. Managers and supervisors should be at their offices now figuring out how employees can return to work safely when the time comes.
What does all of this have to do with a knife show? Well, you have to start planning somewhere. Start small and build on the successes. Everyone thought Jerry Falwell, Jr. was an idiot for keeping Liberty College open, turns out he might have provided a model for the successful return to normal.

Well, no 2021 show either, Mason Dixon is still up in the air for rescheduling.
