In my family forever, EDISON toaster with the original, now a fire hazard, cord. It's now just a decoration in my kitchen.

Re: Artifacts
Very nice toaster, Skip.
I used one of those for years. The one I had had a feature that would flip the toast on each side to toast the other side.
Never had to touch the toast. It was so neat.

Re: Artifacts
The Universal Food Chopper #2. Made by Landers, Frary & Clark, New Britain, Connecticut, U.S.A. With the original coarse, medium and fine cutters. Also the original instruction sheet. This item was used quite extensively in my family, but doesn't look it. Food did NOT get thrown away. I've never used it, but I keep it in a kitchen cupboard. There are quite a few of these on eBay as of this posting.

Re: Artifacts
Skip, that chopper/grinder is in great shape and since it is from your family that makes it that much more special.
I have several of those small grinders, I thought I would collect them at one time but haven't followed through to actually call it a "collection". Universal grinders are as you said, quite common as are KeenKutters, Griswold and Entreprise plus several other names I can't recall. My search was for a grinder with the Winchester logo, which I finally found. The KeenKutter has the same logo as the pocket knives tang stamp, they might interest some knife collectors. I've wonder how many of the grinders were made by the same company, just a different name on the body?
I'll try to post a few pictures of some of the ones I've accumulated in a day or so.
We also have a combination coffee peculator/toaster that appears to be quite old, it was a gift from a friend.
I'm enjoying this thread about artifacts.

Re: Artifacts
That is a beauty Skip!
I have a Universal grinder also, not quite as nice but not used very much. I got for nostalgia sauce. I see them often at sales, usually for less than $5
I don't remember the brand, but we had one on the ranch when i was a kid. It was how we ground venison and beef to make hamburger. It was quite a workout when grinding all the hamburger from even half a beef. Venison wasn't as bad because they a lot smaller!

New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 2:22 pmThank you Dale.I guess with the development of electric blenders and food processors, these hand grinders and choppers took a backseat. But the way this country and the world in general is heading, these might make a comeback as a basic necessity.
That is too true Skip!
I find myself more drawn to the things we used on the ranch without electricity, and thinking how I could use them if the "Lights went out."

Re: Artifacts
From 1949, The NEW Rotary "MOULI-JULIENNE." Unlike the previous food chopper that I posted, which my mother used quite a bit, I never saw a family member use this gizmo. The box is missing one inner, bottom flap and is pretty beat up. The gizmo is NEAR MINT. For me, just another kitchen decoration.

Re: Artifacts
We had one Becky got from her parents. I liked it, mainly because of the antique feel to it; something you don't see very much these days. It sat in the kitchen and was great for the extra storage. Sadly we moved into a house that just couldn't accommodate its size.bighomer wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 3:41 pmIt is Sarge, no family connection, something the bride drug in for me to strip and paint many years ago.![]()

For your viewing pleasure, here is an Armstrong Perc-O-Toaster. There is plenty of info on line about these and this one is fairly rare. It stays on a shelf in the utility room, no place to really display.

Re: Artifacts
Here is a MOULI GRATER. From the same company as the MOULI JULIENNE in my previous post. I definitely use this device. I love cheese, doesn't matter what kind. But on pasta, it has to be parmesan cheese. This gizmo lets me grate it fresh, straight on the pasta. Or grate it, in bulk, into a container. I tried to use it to grate garlic cloves, HUGE MISTAKE! It took me hours to unclog each tiny hole. The handle can be switched to either side.
