Re: Who's Attending The Blade Show
Regrettably I'm not going this year Gary because I don't want to confront the mask no-mask thing head-on with a community that I hold dear. Additionally, Atlanta in August....pass.

I’m afraid it maybe several years before I risk going to a Knife Show.

My anniversary is August 8, my wife has no interest I might can sneak in Friday but work is having us use a ton of our PTO, planning to be in Dalton and in Cumming in the fall

Re: Who's Attending The Blade Show
As things currently stand, it is very doubtful that I'll make it to Blade this year. I really hate to miss because I wasn't able to attend last year either. With the Corona virus still raging and with my health issues, I just don't think I want to take the risk of being exposed to a huge crowd of people from all over the country (if not world) in an indoor venue.

Re: Who's Attending The Blade Show
I planned on going to my first Blade Show this year and was really looking forward to it.
It's a long way to Georgia from Maine and I don't fly anymore so it was a big trip for me. However, with the whole country in "lockdown limbo" I decided that maybe next year would be a better time to go. Besides, the GEC rendezvous is the same weekend and that's only 650 miles away. At least that's how I consoled myself!

Re: Who's Attending The Blade Show
Spending hours inside a building with a lot of other people is the best way to catch Covid. If Blade is not cancelled, i bet attendance will be low. I think most people will not want to take the risk. Even if everyone wears a mask, transmission will still occur when there are a lot of people inside a building. Outside would be much safer, but not very practical. A sudden rainstorm would not hurt people but the knives would not like it.

Re: Who's Attending The Blade Show
I'm not going either, though I would like to go some year...
I'm thinking along the same lines as Tom here, Atlanta, in AUGUST??
I will console myself though with our alternate travel plans, providing we have no problem getting on the plane. We have to get a Covid virus test three days before we leave. If that goes well we should be fishing for salmon in the Kenai River in Alaska with her granddaughter and my son about the time Blade Show starts. I think my likelihood of getting Covid virus from a king salmon isn't very great!
It would drive me crazy to wear a mask all day long in a hot stuffy building with tons of people around.
I can barely stand wearing one long enough to walk into a store for 15 minutes and walk back out.
I hope y'all have a good show and stay healthy.

Suck it up you ole marine, I know a ole jarhead can wear a mask if a ole red leg doggie like me can..
Seriously I think the mask thing is mostly a mind over matter deal, I had to wear a N-95 at my work place years ago. I wear one now when mowing or bush hogging. Allergies don't you know.

I am really surprised it has not been cancelled. I do not plan to go but to all those who do
be very careful. A large group of people surrounding a table and talking is a perfect set up
for viral transmission via air.

Re: Who's Attending The Blade Show
Sorry to hear so many are not attending . I under stand that they are going to have safety measures in place for the show .
It looks to be a small show compared to the normal Blade Show. There moving everyone in the Larger room and spacing tables 6'feet apart. That's what I have hear Not sure if this will work but I have cabin Fever and will be wearing a mask and using hand sanitizer and will wipe down all my knives that are handle everything I have will be under Glass. Will pray that all goes well and put my faith in God . I hope the state of GA doesn't cancel it but that's what I think may happen . I can't go on living in fear the news Media they would have you hid under your bed or bury your head in the sand .

Re: Who's Attending The Blade Show
Gary, I love going to Knife Shows and haven’t miss a Blade Show in many years. Our oldest son is a nurse practitioner has put the fear in my wife and myself. This virus Covid-19 is real and is not to be taken for granted. We cancel our reservations for Atlanta and the Dalton Show.kennedy knives wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 4:55 pm Sorry to hear so many are not attending . The Mayor of Atlanta just moved the city back to Phase 1 opening which will force Blade to cancel if it sticks. The Gov is saying the city does not have the authority. More pissing contests.....

Any words from you regarding this, especially since you're not sn expert in this, are futile and empty.kootenay joe wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 2:56 am Spending hours inside a building with a lot of other people is the best way to catch Covid. Re: Who's Attending The Blade Show
From Blade
***2020 BLADE Show is Cancelled***
With the 39th annual BLADE Show scheduled for Aug. 7-9, we have been receiving countless questions from exhibitors and attendees about the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on the show and its guests.
Unfortunately, we have reluctantly come to the conclusion that it’s in the best interest of all concerned to cancel BLADE Show 2020.
Please know that we did not reach this decision lightly. Having been in daily contact with guests, exhibitors, local officials and the show venue for the past two months, it has become apparent that we cannot present a 2020 event that meets exhibitor and attendee expectations and BLADE Show standards.
While the state of Georgia continues to grapple with decisions about new guidelines and restrictions to deal with the pandemic, BLADE Show too recognizes its responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.
BLADE Magazine and the BLADE Show staff appreciate the support we received from our many industry friends who worked with us to plan for the alternate August dates after we were forced to cancel the original June event.
The 40th Annual BLADE Show is scheduled for June 4-6, 2021, at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.
Thank you all so much for your support in our efforts. We look forward to bringing the knife community together again in 2021.

I posted that Blade would likely get cancelled/postponed to a later date because of risk of Covid transmission. And now this is what has happened. No one needs to be an 'expert' to see and understand the risks. It is happening all around us and to a number of AAPK members as well. For those over age 50 or 60 the consequences of a Covid infection are far more severe. Keeping everything open in an attempt to develop herd immunity would result in a lot more deaths. Hence Blade gets postponed for safety and then economic reasons as well. No 'expertise' need to understand this.
