The Schrade LUNA is a concept multi tool ‘plus’ in the same order as the Navitool/I-Quip products. The idea and prototype came about in 2003 and no progress was made beyond that early stage. It doesn’t seem likely this one was headed to production regardless of the closure. The LUNA features a molded plastic body that holds a blade pod filled with Tough Tool implements on one side complemented by a watertight flashlight on the other. The LED flashlight is positioned to cast light on the object being engaged by the tool but a large plastic nut on the bottom of LUNA releases the flashlight to allow it to be used by itself when tools aren’t needed.
LUNA weighs in at a solid 4.9 ounces (5.7 ounces with three AAA batteries installed) and measures 3-7/8” by 1-7/8” by 1-1/8”. Without the flashlight the length is 3-1/4”.
The prototype was actually 3D printed along with a small cadre of spare parts – unfortunately, there aren’t enough parts to build a second LUNA. The prototype and parts are joined by a notebook filled with technical sketches and notes. There’s even a sketch of a potential product logo and finished product computer images.
