Cleaning Up Knife Issues

herbva and I live relatively close and he does knife rescaling and restoration. We have visited and talked knives with each other on several occasions, so a few weeks ago I asked if he might be interested in doing some cleanup work on a few knives of mine. Most were situations where a previous owner scrawled his initials on a knife, usually on the bolster or shield. A few were knives with deep blade pitting and water marks or blade scratches that looked like someone tried to sharpen using a brick.

Well, I must say herbva did an excellent job and I'm tickled pink with the results of his work! The Marble's fixed blade and barehead New York Knife Co/Hammer Brand jack were probably in the roughest condition, like each had been stored in water for years. The Hammer Brand fixed blade, Keen Kutter scout, Marble's Safety Folding Hunter and Valley Forge jack had previous owner monograms and the lock-back was the victim of grinder/brick sharpening.

All 7 look great now, and Herb even bombed me with a Case -050 in Pakkawood that he resurrected with a totally rusted out blade and spring. Folding Hunters are one of my preferred collectible patterns so this was a real added bonus and a knife that I can EDC.

Dale, I should have done that but I didn't. Luckily the initials weren't too deep, but the pitting was really bad. I might have individual pictures of each knife somewhere . . .

Found the Valley Forge and the KK scout is at the bottom of the other picture, I think you can enlarge it. The New York Knife Co barehead had almost black blades with waterfall looking pitting. The large Marble's Folding Hunter on the left had an initialed bolster. Almost forgot- lost shield replacement on a Japanese Monarch Hunter, really like how it turned out, one of my favorite patterns.
