Schrade + LB8 with inscribed letter "S" on handle

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Schrade + LB8 with inscribed letter "S" on handle

Post by Gerberfan50 »

Found a Papa Bear at St. Vincent shop recently. Has two lines of info on blade. S/N 91926. Lockback w/staglon pattern. Is it an early 80's model? Only paid $5 and it is in great shape. Was resting in an old weather beaten Case sheath. :) Haven't seen many inscribed models unless I'm going blind. Thx for any info.

You'll need to show a pic or two to get some feedback on it. I see you're new to AAPK (welcome!) - after you hit 'Reply', if you look beneath the section where you add text you will see a tab labeled 'attachments'. In there you'll see how to upload pics and add them to your post.

Here are the two fancy stamped (?) letter "S" on each side of the bolster. Factory made?

Probably just someone personalizing their own knife or given as a gift.

Looks like a person's initial or monogram, engraved by machine or hand, not stamped.

I agree with the previous two replies and will add that I think it's a "S" and a "P" as opposed to two S's. Both the "S" and "P" are displayed upside down in pics. These fancy scripts often confuse me but the two letters aren't the same that's for sure.

As I see it:

I don't always respond to great posts but I always appreciate seeing them. Thanks for posting! ::tu::

Thank you all for your feedback and perspectives. I'll buy into a personalized engraving on this Papa Bear. It's a keeper for me right now to pass on to someone else in a few years time.
