Anton Wingen Jr redo

Post by Byrd »

I got this off EBay in a lot of 5 knives for $15 shipped. I saw a project in the making!

First I cleaned the rust off as best I could, then began to shape the Elk horn that's by the finger guard. I used a Kabar leather replacement kit for the rest of the handle. I used paste wax as a release agent and epoxied everything together. The wax worked and I was able to get the handle off in one peice and the shaping on my belt sander began! That leather is hard!

After final shaping I assembled the knife and shoe shined it with finer grits of paper. Then stained with brown Feibings leather dye and put natural shoe polish on as a final coat.

It doesn't look new, but it's better than it was!

Great resto, Byrd! ::tu::. What did you use at the guard?

Thanks guys! It was a fun project. I used the original brass guard.
