Anyone else ever buy a knife on impulse and then when you get it in hand you wonder what on earth you were thinking?

Well, I did.

It's not a bad knife just not something I think I'll ever use. Probably end up giving it away eventually.

I got a deal on this Kizer Gunhammer in S35VN with textured Titanium handles. Paid half of what most dealers are selling this for.

Nothing wrong with it at all. It's just not one that I would carry (too big/heavy for my EDC needs) and not the type of knife I collect. So, I'm not quite sure why I got it other than it appealed to me at the moment and wasn't expensive.

On further thought, I am thinking it might make a decent folding knife for the kitchen because I can store it in a drawer without damaging/dulling the edge (which is D2 and razor sharp). That's probably what I'll end up using it for.

Nice Kizer, BTW...a handful of a knife but I'm guessing the Titanium keeps it fairly light weight.

I am thinking about having it refurbished. But, between shipping (they want UPS, and it's expensive), the spa treatment fee ($45), and return shipping ($15, about the same as what UPS will charge me), it's a little expensive. Close to $100 between the $30 something I have in the knife, and all the fees. The knife will be cleaned, sharpened, and all hardware replaced, but still, the banged-up blade. Yet, Buck and Victorinox charge peanuts for major repairs (including blade/implement replacements and full-on restorations), and I bet each probably repairs 100X the knives Emerson does in a year.

That's a serious looking knife! Too bad about the issues, but you're correct. I not a big time Buck collector, but you can't beat the way they treat their customers, and I've found that Spyderco is pretty good too, I've never dealt with Emmerson.

Most "mini" knives are too small to be functional, in my opinion, but this Tops Mini Scandi Folder (MSF) is not in that group. Coming in at 4 1/4" closed with a 3 1/4" blade made out of Bohler N690Co and handled in Brown (they say Tan but it doesn't look Tan to me) Canvas Micarta, this knife is up for bigger jobs than you might expect. I would say it's pretty much regular sized for a tactical folder, maybe Tops has plans for a larger framed version? I just received it but I really like how it looks and functions. Looking at the spine, I think the Micarta resembles wood grain a little.

These are USA made too!

Jerry, they're all 3 SpeedSafe. I like the assisted opening but some guys take the torsion bars out and make them flippers. Personally I don't know why.

A new pickup, the First Tactical Sidewinder Safety Knife. The blade is of a good size and profile, and very thick. The web cutter is very sharp, which is rare, even on more well-known knives from companies like Kershaw.

It is 5" closed, with a 3.52" blade. Really weird why they didn't make it just a smidge smaller, as to stay within many states' sub 3.5" blade laws.


Deep carry clip:

The problem is that the knife is too thick and heavy for pocket carry, and I have to use a sheath. This was to some Normark knife, but I don't know which, since I bought it cheap, but brand new without a knife. Probably an EKA lockback. I used to use it for a Leatherman, but it fits this knife great.

And a question--has Mike Vellekamp designed anything for an actual knife company? I know of two Italian-made "Bladetech" brand knives; but I've mostly seen his designs on knives from clothing companies like First Tactical, 5.11 Tactical, and Noble Equine.

Well guys, I just pimped out my ZT 0350TS with some Black/Gray Stipple G-10 scales from VZ Grips. Found them on KnifeCenter and thought they might look cool. This thing reminds me of a Panzer Tank.

Pretty pleased with the end result, I have an anodized pivot pin coming too, but I wish it was red, I think that would really set it off. The texture is very grippy, not like run of the mill G-10 isn't, but this really feels good in hand. Not a bad project if you have the right tools. Plus I always keep my "assisted" knives assisted.

This knife has been traveling with me a lot over my Bachelor's party weekend! Added a Bronze pivot screw and I really like how it turned out.
