I happen to truly enjoy looking and admiring you folks pieces of art. Should at least a half dozen or more of you carving whittlers be interested. I would like to see the results of a contest, the winner to be decided by a closed vote of lets say five folks on this forum. The prize will be an older Carbon steel knife(I will donate the knife) that the main blade has been modified to a carving blade, probably a wharncliff. It will not be a million dollar baby but it will be something that you would be proud to whittle or carve with. Dale (Orvet) has agreed to modify the blade. It will be up to you guys to set up the rules or guidelines. I think it would be nice to see a small pictorial display during each of your efforts. Oh, the subject will be one of the match projects from the Remington pamplet that I posted earlier. I will attach a photo with the instructions with this thread. I have no preference which project or use different ones as far as I am concerned. I will watch this thread for a week or so and see if there is any interest. It should be fun and who knows what famous outsider might cruise through and see your work. I will attempt to arrange the judges if the contest is a go.Why don't in your replies you give me some ideas as to length and heft of a good carver.(Knife that is.) My photo will blow up to giant if needed with clarity.

Hey Moss,
I will give it a go myself. I am always up for a challenge. Never know what will turn out of those match sticks!!!

I reckon no one else is willing to participate so we or I shall revisit the subject in the future. Hey Keithlong and TM, sounds as though you guys might get a head start on the thundering herd. Good luck and thanks for the interest. I guess it is sort of like the exotic game animal meat supplier. Its just not worth butchering my Elephant for one or two chops.

It was a nice idea, mossdancer - consider me interested if it ever is revisited
