Geo. Schrade Girl Scout knife

Hi all - hoping to get a bit of information on this knife. It belonged to my mother. My mom was born in 1921 so my guess is that it's from the late 20's or early 30's? have spent a lot of time already trying to find something about it on the internet with no luck, except one that sold in ebay but no info on it. None of the tang charts I've been able to view have this on them. So I am here and wish I'd started here! Date and approx. value would be great!

Hi.....

That knife is part of the Girl Scout utensil kit. It came with a spoon & fork also.
They would be carried in a leather or vinyl "pouch." They are NOT hard to find.
Your knife is part of a similar kit. It's from the 1960's, maybe the late 1950's and
they are NOT expensive. Some of mine are below.

I thought I had read that Schrader stopped using that mark in 56? I read that Boker and Imperial both made these after that.
Those dates would be way to late to have been my moms so not sure whose it was...

Nice collection...like I said the internet has very little information about these but it looks like you've been successful in finding some. Are there online auctions for a lot of these or are they from knife shows?

Hi. I got All of mine on eBay. Some separately, just the knife and some complete utensil kits.
They are all mixed. There are SCHRADE, IMPERIAL and BOKER knives in my collection.
The wire frame utensils are another subject altogether.

Here are some Utica Girl Scouts' knives All have aluminum "Featherlight" bodies, (except of course, the back spring). Left to right: Two blade bone handle, Two blade black composite handle, 4 blade, green mottled celluloid. Oddly the shield on the four blade is at the head end while the other two are opposite.The four blades don't seem as common as the twos and the green celluloid handle is less common too. J.O'.

By the way, Girl's knives are nice to collect. Most I've seen have very little wear and are clean. I guess girls back then didn't throw them or pry stuff open, etc. I know my own Cub and Boy Scout knives took a real beating. J.O'.

Those are cool! First one on left looks oddly familiar and seems that we had one of those floating around when I was young. I'm still perplexed on where the one I have came from. I just remember always having it!

I never used it so it's the same it's always been, dull! I'm still honing my honing skills...

For what it's worth, I stopped sharpening my collection. I don't use them and it makes them safer to clean and for others to handle. My "carry" pieces are dead sharp. Boy Scout saying, "Nothing more useless or dangerous than a dull pocketknife".
George Schrade was a clever inventor with many knife patents for liner locks, automatics, etc. Here's a Boker-made, Schrade patent folding hunter/fish scaler The pics are not too good, (sunny day, shiny stainless), but you can see it's made of a simple rolled channel for the body and has a neat sliding lock back. Simple and efficient. 8-5/8" open. Enjoy. J.O'.
