I have no idea, but $533 seems a lot, but maybe it is not, it is supply and demand, and if someone really wants it they will pay.

For what it is worth I would be very skeptical about it's authenticity. With a seller with two sales and the other items listed for sale being H-D patches and rock t-shirts who has been on e-bay for less than two months this raises red flags with me.I would like to see the tang stamp which for some reason is conspicuously absent(tried seeing it on the one pic showing that side of the blade but couldn't).I have never seen a shield in that location on a handle and never on a Russell barlow. Call me skeptical.

Always go with your gut feeling, is an old saying that has stood the test of time. The bidding started at $299, there were 2 bidders and the winning bidder was prepared to pay more, he had more bids after his winning bid, how high he was prepared to go is any ones guess.

Hello. New to the forum but have read off and on over the years. This knife led me back to the forum as I was sure it’s oddities would likely lead to discussion. I’m a Russell collector and wound up with the knife.

I also have never seen a daddy Barlow with a shield in person, picture, or old sales Catalogs. I have also never seen a jigged bone bone Daddy Barlow lock back fish back with etching on the blade opposite the “stainless”. The shield was used by Russell on fixed blade knives of that era.

Russell employee lunchbox knife? Special made for “Western Massachusetts Company”? Counterfeit ? Certainly never part of mass production but very interesting to me. Can’t prove it but my gut and eye lead me to believe it left Russel that way.

Not sure if this will be seen but interested in further discussion and feedback.

Welcome to the forums DSF77! Have you tried contacting the Museum of Industrial(?) in Greenfield Massachusetts? They have a ton of Russell material in their archives and may be able to help you. I contacted them awhile back in regard to a bunch of Russell blades that looked to be setup pieces for knife manufacturing.I'll see if I can find their full name and post it here.

The name of the place is the the Museum of our Industrial Heritage in Greenfield Massachusetts and if you go to their web site there is a place for you to contact them. The person I was in touch with was a Mr. James Terrapane.
