steak knives?

A lady told me to never cut steaks with a serrated blade steak knife. It tears the meat apart so use a plain blade. What say you? As long as it gets to my tummy I don't care. I see both kinds for sale in kitchen stores.

I agree that serrated knives are terrible but I also don't like sharpening all my steak knives after each meal. Slicing against a ceramic or glass plate isn't the best thing for a non-serrated blade. I'll stick with serrated blades out of convenience.

This is my steak knife, whether at a restaurant or at home. The Snakewood has darkened over the years, 12C27 dosen't need sharpened after every meal. The only serrated knife I use is for bread.

I’m with you on that one Kris. The only serrated knives I have are also for bread. I can’t explain it, but I have a strong bias against any serrated blade.

The steak knives I use at home just happen to be a set of Case non-serrated.
At restaurants I use whatever.
I never really thought about this.

Using a nice sharp non serated knife greatly enhances the steak eating experience for me. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures. It’s not hard to cut on a plate without dulling a knife. Although my wife and kids cannot manage it.

The fact is that decent quality steak is beyond my budget anymore and I don't need a fancy steak knife for ground Chuck or pulled pork. I doubt the market will ever again allow a good steak on my plate.
