Old Timer 61OT , some made by Camillus ?

Post by cbnutt »

I had read where if the nail nick on the sheep foot was on the front its Camillus made , other side was Sharade made ? Would the Camillus be the better knife between the two ?

I have never heard this before. I think it is most likely that all 61OT's were made by Schrade. It is possible that after Schrade closed in 2004, some of the unfinished knives went to Camillus for completion. Maybe.
The quality of Schrade USA knives and Camillus USA knives is basically identical.

I had read it on another knife forum, and have seen pics of the nail nicks on both sides for sure , just not sure on the Camillus part .

If you have one in hand, examine the bolster (with a loupe if necessary) for a pivot pin. If you can see a pivot pin, then it was not manufactured by Schrade. They used Swinden-key construction, and no one else had that equipment.
I agree with Kootenay Joe that the quality on either Schrade or Camillus would be similar; which is to say "great quality".

On my 61OT a nail nick on front side of sheepsfoot would be mostly behind the master clip blade so not accessible. The only way this could work would be if the nick was toward blade 'tip' or if sheepsfoot blade was 'deeper' so the spine would be higher above the clip blade.
Would be helpful to see pictures of both variations to compare blade profiles and position of sheepsfoot nail nick.

Here is my 61OT. It is a great pattern, one of Schrade's best.
