This "Case XX 6107" doesn't look right

Post by QTCut5 »

Since I'm just a novice collector, I hesitate to cry foul on a knife unless I'm absolutely sure it's a fake. I've looked at thousands of Case Mini Trappers (07) and have never seen anything like this before. It just doesn't look legit on several levels.

Obviously the blade has been reprofiled. Other than that I don't know.

Cobbled knife...in the XX era Case never made a single blade 07. Also as said previously, well worn, reprofiled.

Hasn't arrived in my mailbox yet but may be a good $ 60 lesson I learned. Maybe it will be a good knife...seller is selling off a big collection...hope the others are legit...will keep you posted.

The knife came today....its a pretty good looking knife. The handle (who ever made it) is some kind of translucent red synthetic material, the blade (who ever replaced it) has good snap and I think just a very slight hint of wobble. I tried to get a picture of the pattern number on the tang which looks to me like it starts off with 310 or 810...cant see the final numbers at all but think I see where there may have been a 1/2...the blade doesn't have half stop....definitely doesn't look like a 610. The shield doesn't look like it's pinned but doesn't look replaced. The bolsters are smaller than a the real 6107 Case I have....Any idea what company might have produced the rest of the knife other than the blade?

Have not communicated with the seller at this point

Let me introduce you to Gixen, the free sniping application that lets you decide what you're willing to pay for an item, set that amount in Gixen and ignore the auction until it's over. You either won the auction for a price you can live with or someone wanted it worse than you did. It's pure folly to sit there running up the price by continuing to bid. JMHO

Your photos are much better than the seller's; makes the knife look a lot nicer, especially the handle.

The blade does not appear to be a case blade to me...at least not a blade from a 07. Another thing that looks suspicious to me is the tang stamp. The letters appear to be the wrong size and also unevenly aligned and spaced as if each letter had been cold stamped individually (which is a common forgery technique).

Here's what an authentic XX era tang stamp on a 6207 looks like:

GIXEN is an automatic bidding app that allows you to enter your maximum bid on an item which is then held (not actually placed) until the final seconds of the auction. It's a way to keep from running up the price of an item just to be in the lead or to reveal the current high bid. It saves you the hassle of having to be online and entering bids during the final seconds of an auction and can also keep you from overpaying for an item by getting into a bidding war with another bidder and driving the price up unnecessarily (although depending on what max bid you enter, it can sometimes backfire if someone else does the same thing and puts in a super high bid in order to "guarantee" a win). I use it all the time.

Thanks ~Q~. I thought I had adequately explained it but apparently not. You did a much better job.

I apologize for my short post about gixen ...I understand the concept of it...and I appreciate advice from people here, I just didn't understand what it had to do with this topic. Pretty sure I've never placed a bid for more than I could afford or was comfortable paying. I have, I'm sure paid more for something than it was actually worth if I really wanted it...like the time I paid $15 for a 1970s cereal cartoon character refrigerator magnet....

My only regret here is that I didnt know at the time of bidding that Case didn't even produce this pattern in 40 to 64. At this point I'm just trying to learn all I can with this experience.

It's clearly a cobbled knife, I know y'all probably cant see in the pictures I posted but the pattern number definitely doesn't start with a 6.

When did Case first make the 6107 pattern?

Did case ever use a handle material like this...its really pretty cool looking

Officially: I don't know. ::shrug:: Probably have to call the Case Historian if you really want to know that info...although it wouldn't surprise me if some AAPK member knows...or has access to reference books that have the answer.

Unofficially, the earliest year _107 in my collection is this 1992 Case Collector(')s Club Jr. GY6107 with a single clip blade.
I am not suggesting that Case did not make _107s before 1992, FWIW, this is just the earliest _107 I have ever personally seen.

I hope I'm not boring y'all with this but still have a few questions if there's any one out there that knows...

Did Case make a 6207 with a plain oval shield?

Did Case ever use this handle material?

Just wondering if the handle components of this knife could have been Case parts from a 6207 and someone just made a single blade knife out of the parts.

Looks like there might be a single pin near the center of the shield into the liner

The seller says I can return it no problem but I'm really curious about this one
