Knife Making - Interesting Video.

Post by cudgee »

All of us here love knives, many of us are of an older generation and have always carried a knife since we were kids. There are many aspects of knife collecting and i just saw this on Youtube and thought many of you may find it very interesting. I don't have the skill to copy the link to the thread, but someone will do it. ::tu:: It is about a cutler who started his apprenticeship as a 14 year old in Sheffield, and shows him making a buffalo horn pen knife. Most of the tools he is using he made himself for their specific jobs, it is a really interesting video, with some tips that may come in handy for knife maintenance.

That was really interested! I may have to watch it a couple of times more. I did learn a bit more about making one fit together better.

Stan Shaw is now 93 years old (I believe) and still making knives.

Simply amazing! I loved watching him use tools than a lot of folks would relegate to wall hanging status to turn out that beautiful pocket knife.

Here’s another video of the last hand forger of pocket knife blades in Sheffield. This man’s skill is amazing too!

Correct, I just saw that he had turned 94. I do believe that he is still making knives, though.
There is a very good thread on Stan over on the other knife forum.

Thanks for posting the video cudgee. Stan Shaw is a cutlery icon. Do a search here for ”Stan Shaw” and you’ll find 8 pages of old posts about him, many including other videos. ::tu::
