Crazy eBay auction

This is crazy. This auction just ended, an old Case counter hone was sold for $1,001! (Plus $15.50 shipping.) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Case-Knife ... 7675.l2557

Something ain’t kosher here! These are fairly scarce but the selling price is ridiculous. To top it off I don’t believe that’s an original stone or an original oil can either. The only thing authentic here is the wooden block and the graphics. In a way I wish this was legit because I have one like it, but with the original stone. But I can’t believe this can be right.

Bid history shows it sold to a “private bidder”. Hope no one here bought it for that. Here’s the seller’s auction picture. Below it a cut from a Case catalog reprint showing what it should look like. (The one I have has a thin stone and rounded can, as seen in the catalog cut.)

I believe the Oil Stone is not original. Much too large.

When did Case sell these ? 1920's -1930's ?
If there was some of the original oil in the can would it still be liquid or set up like tar ?

So what is "private listing - bidders' identities protected"? Is this set up by the seller? What purpose
would it serve on something like this ( I could possible see why a bidder would want to remain
anonymous if it was something very rare and expensive so the seller set it up for them)?

I do not understand "private listing" either. With a standard ebay auction the bidders are not identified by their ebay name, just by their ebay feedback number so it already is anonymous.
The picture above of Mr. Case on the phone with the oil stone on his desk shows a very old style phone, maybe even earlier than 1920's ?
