Knife info wanted

Post by CircleE »

I have a camillus knife that is a sword brand. That is the only thing I’ve been able to find on it, but I would like to know the model number and date if possible. Or even what it could be worth so I know if I made a decent purchase.

And info on this knife would be welcomed!!

Hi! And welcome aboard!!
I can't help, but don't worry, someone with more knowledge than I will be along soon, no doubt!

Any pics, especially close ups of any stamping on the blade tangs?
Those would help immensely.
Besides, we just love pics!!
Take care and God bless,

Hi. You might want to post your question(s) about this pocket knife here.

Sword Brand was a name that Camillus gave to their best knives. You can find a wide variety of patterns marked "Sword Brand".
The pattern of your knife is called a "Stockman", The handles are likely made of celluloid which can suddenly break down and give off a gas that will deeply corrode the blade steel and brass liners.
It looks to be in very good condition which adds to value but the presence of cell handles scares off most collectors. I would put it's value at about $50 on a good day.

I agree with Roland that it looks like celluloid handles. That puts the date of manufacturer before 1960-ish.
Once Delrin was invented (1961? I am not sure exactly), most cutlery companies began using the more stable plastic.
While the celluloid can become unstable, it is far prettier than plastic! I have a few of them - simply store them away from any other knives in a container that is not air-tight. And if you ever see signs of out-gassing, pop the handles off and dispose of them, then have the knife rehandled. It could happen at any time, which means it may be 100 years from now.
Other than that, enjoy a beautiful, well-made knife!

Everything else is just a hobby.
