Those "bug-Outs" are amazingly thin and light knives, I love mine.

Yes they are very light. At first, I thought it felt too light. Now I'm used to it.

My wife is a definite keeper! I got 2 Seahorse Whittlers. A Buffalo Horn and a Classic in Cabernet bone..

I bought the basic yellow CV Sodbuster Jr. with birthday money early this year. It's a really impressive pattern, but I chose CV and Delrin specifically as it was to be a work knife and EDC (and the fact that the birthday money I had also needed to go to new clothes--but the TSC exclusive Stockman I really wanted may be bought with Christmas money). The various bone and such they've been putting on it look great! Especially the purple colors!

I also have a Leatherman Free T4 at my local Post Office but it didn't quite make it here in time for Christmas. Both gifts are from my wonderful wife.

I bought the T2 (it doesn't have the scissors and a couple other tools), but it was never shipped, and I was refunded. Now, hoping Leatherman has good after-Christmas sales (like they did in 2018) I'm thinking I'll get the T4 instead. It has scissors, which for me on a multitool/Swiss Army is a pretty big deal.

The best thing I ever did was tell my mother-in-law that I am collecting pocket knives. She helps people organize estate sales, and for the last few years she has been gifting me knives that she finds. This year she gave me this Schrade USA fruit knife. I'm not a Schrade collector, but I really like this knife.

I have a family friend that knows what types of knives I collect, and will occasionally pick them up for me from estate sales.


That one looks to be in pretty good shape, and the etch is still largely intact.

It's amusing how this worked out for me. My wife and I stopped buying Christmas gifts for each other about 4 years ago. This year the family members that we usually get together with didn't want company because of the COVID risk.

As a result, we stayed home today and only had Renee's mom over. Since we weren't really doing the family thing this year, we decided at the last minute to buy gifts for each other so that we could at least have some kind of Christmas.

Renee bought the T4 online from a store right here in town on Wednesday night. She had it shipped because our last minute decision didn't give her enough time to go by the store and pick it up.

Renee looked at the T2 also but she knows that I often carry a SAK Super Tinker and she knew I would want the scissors.

The tools on the T4 seem more robust than the tools on a SAK. They can all be opened with one hand and they all lock into the opened position. I might like the pocket clip too. I'm excited to see if I like the T4 better than my Super Tinker or not.

Thanks Cody. I love the CV blades too. Much easier to keep a good edge on them. And I agree, Case is doing a great job with the purples for the last few years.

First knife my wife has given me; Wharncliffe lock-back in 440C, mirror polished, file worked, leather sheath and a sharpening steel. Nice weight and fit & finish.

My oldest son got me a soft sided knife case.
Will hold 40 folding knives.

I really like how that one zips up. I don't' like Sack-Ups because of the stick-on Velcro that closes the flap (it falls off) and having to lace them up. I have a pair of "Safe & Sound" cases (probably made by Blue Ridge); that are supposed to hold 48. One, it actually fits about 24 "regular size" knives (anything 3 1/8" or bigger). Secondly, If the elastic is a little loose (say, from a smaller knife being placed in a slot where a multitool or large folder was), knives fall out, even when the case is snapped up. In retrospect, I should have gotten that design you show.

My favorite is a leather roll-up pouch made to hold wood chisels. But, leather tends to not do well with non-stainless steels. I mostly have tactical folders in that pouch, thus, they're all fairly rust-resistant stainless steels.

This is a very well made one Cody. I plan on using this one to hold some of the kit knives I'm starting to assemble.

Not knife related, but a really useful item. A Lodge, made in the U.S. of A., cast iron fry pan. Already started the breaking in process. Sanded it down and already done some of the 5 seasonings i will give it.

Cudgee, that’s the way to cook! We use cast here at the house a lot. Even got a big old cast Wok.
Curious, you mention 5 seasonings? Have bought all ours used ,already seasoned. Have heard about the process but never done it. Would you clue me in to this 5 seasoning thing. Have heard too sand them down and then heat them up and coat them with oils and let cool down . Also we’ve been told to never use hard chemicals or dishwasher for cleaning.

Mate i have used cast iron for a long time, lost my old one in a move, but still have my 8 inch which i use for a steak for one and eggs, just the right size, so i was converted many many years ago. This came seasoned, but factory seasoned are okay, but you can do a lot better. I sand them down because when they cast them the surface is a bit rough, so it only takes 10 minutes, but knocks the rough surface down and removes the factory seasoning, which makes them non-stick, which only improves over time with use, so when really broken in, if you get the heat right nothing will stick. The 8 inch one i have, a fried egg just slides out straight onto a plate. I season them by heating them just to where you cannot touch the edge, then rub oil all over it then put in a oven heated to about 375 degrees, leave it for 40 minutes to 1 hour, turn oven off and leave till cold. The next 2 times i do this, i only oil the inside of the pan. Then i will cook streaky bacon and potato's in it 2 times, then you are all good to go. The bacon fat and the starch in the potato's help the iron start the non stick process. Don't ask me how, it has something to do with the molecular make up of the cast iron. To clean them, never detergent or harsh chemicals. Just heat them up, run them under hot water and wipe clean with a cloth, if there is stuck food, remove with a nylon pot scrubber, wipe dry, heat up again and wipe out with oil. The one key is, always go light on the oil when wiping out after cleaning, too much oil becomes sticky and tacky on the surface, and they become a nightmare to cook with, it is the old less is more principle. There is a misconception that cast iron pots and pans are to hard to look after, rubbish, they are easier then most cooking implements that you have to scrub like hell to clean, just keep em' dry and lightly oiled. Hope i have not waffled too much.

I will post some photos as i go, you will be able to see what i mean and the difference.

Nothing sharp in my stocking as the wife and I have an agreement that I'll buy my own knives.
Saves on the obvious fake appreciation and disappointment . . .

But she and the boy did find me a toolbox to replace the one where the bottom rotted out.

that weren't all girly lookin' ... she came through with NINE pair !!

This isn't one I got for Christmas it's yet one I'm giving for Christmas. I held it back to avoid postal issues. I'll be sending it out next week. Kaleb did the work on this. It's a Case 5347 I bought w/o handles on it. Kaleb put the mammoth ivory on, fluted the bolsters, and did the double vine file work. I can't imagine anyone not liking this.

Well.....Unfortunately or Fortunately, depending on how you look at it, my family members have never bought me a knife or firearm because they say they never know enough about them to take a chance on buying me one I may already have or may not like. So they usually give me gift cards. So I received gift cards from my daughters. So now comes the decision making of what I want to spend them on.

I received a Case 2020 07 Mini-Trapper (woo hoo baby. It's a beauty.), a couple of books one of which I just finished reading so I have to take it back and exchange it. Also got a can of Girl Scout Dill Pickle Peanuts. They're pretty good. And the icing on the cake was a gift card for the grocery store. Apparently I'm hard to buy for.
