2020 What did Santa bring you?

Gonna use one of my cast iron skillets this morning to make ham and cheese omelettes for breakfast real soon here..

Santa also brought me this Zippo and John Wayne magazine .. between my mom's boyfriend and myself we have all the volumes...

This is my favorite picture of him and I decided to have a custom Zippo made of it for Christmas. The process is idiot proof and this came out way better than I expected. I just thought I'd share it. Very inexpensive as well.

I got a very nice example of a ww2 Presto M-2 jump knife in me stocking, I’ve had a few over the years that I regretted selling. Full blade, early style jigging, Pat pend G. Stamped ..... bona-fide!

That's a beautiful Presto M-2, never seen one in such great condition... congrats!

This is the result from the sanding, seasoning and the first cook up, cooked a couple of lamb chops and potato fritter for breakfast. First cook up and not a hint of sticking, but i did get the heat right, the main reason for food sticking to a pan is people don't get the pan hot enough.
After first cook and clean. Have a look at the first photo when new, and compare the color of the pan after seasoning and first use, nearly black compared to grey, that is why you have to season. Hope you are having a good boxing day.

I agree, and LOVE cooking in a cast iron skillet! Being a Southerner in the USA, there is not another way to cook cornbread!
I have never sanded a skillet smooth first, though I have heard from others who have. The factory 'pebbly' texture smooths out eventually, after a lot of use.
I live less than an hour from the Lodge factory, and have occasionally bought Second-quality items from their outlet store. They have great prices on pieces with a blemish on the outside.
Thank you for the pics of your process. I may sand my next one smooth!

There is a bit of a myth about the sanding process, a lot of people think that you have to sand it down to a smooth finish, you don't. You just sand it back to knock the edge off the ' pebbly ' texture and it only takes about 10 minutes. All this does is hastens the smoothing out of the texture eventually as you mentioned. You don't have to sand it, it just speeds up the process that is all, because all you are doing is knocking off the edge off it so to speak. The generations that went before us knew, cast iron is the way to go, mind you, they probably did not realize it at the time, because that was all they had to cook with. You are lucky to live so close to the Lodge Factory, they would bar me for being a pest if i lived that close.

We cook in them all the time, and as a matter of fact, my wife just got me a new lodge stovetop griddle that she found on sale on Amazon. I used to have one years ago that I fried my eggs on, I don’t remember what happened to it.
