Mr. Obvious

Post by just bob »

Even if you warn people they are bidding on a POS it doesn't slow them down. I noticed another seller that is often mentioned in this forum is also selling counterfeit knives as knives made from parts of other knives. That will be the new trend. This might make a decent edc knife.

This seller is totally upfront and honest:
"Up for bid is a jumbo size 4 1/4 inch case xx stock pattern pocket knife. This is a pocket knife put together by someone. The condition is pretty good. If you need a good all around knife to use and carry for every day usage well this is one for you. If you are looking for an investment knife to put up in a knife roll I would suggest you look else where. I have inquired from an expert on case xx knives and was assured this one is a parts knife put together by someone. Please folks this is just a cool looking case ruff black knife not an investment."

The knife is not a "POS". It is good and large user knife. The issue though is whomever sells it next (used or not) might present it as authentic.
I have bought a number of knives from this seller and was happy with every one.

The problem with this is even if this seller is being "upfront and honest", after he sells the knife the next seller might not be so "upfront and honest". And then his customer/victim has paid a mint for something that is not worth a mint. But like we say "let the buyer beware", right? There are always people looking to buy things for x dollars, then resell them for xxxxxxxx dollars or more.

That's my issue with knives like this too. ::nod::

The seller also fails to mention two important things:

#1 - The blades are all new blades, from a recent Case 75 pattern, installed in an old Tested or XX frame.

#2 - The main clip blade has been restamped or engraved with a poor imitation of the Case Tested stamp.

Item #1 makes it a cobbled knife. Item #2 makes it a COUNTERFEIT.

Based on the seller's description one would be led to believe that all parts are original old parts. NOT TRUE

I was surprised to see that it sold for $77
It did look like a good EDC (and he was honest about that), but it looks like people went a little crazy over it.

::td:: It will likely show up again on eBay, this time with the seller representing it as a real Tested era knife. And some fool will buy it. ::dang::

I have a counterfeit tested era stag knife that is in surprisingly good shape. tight, good snap, etc. The counterfeiter should make legit knives, it is that good. I have been mixed about whether I should hit it with a shotgun or use it in the shop. My frugal side says use it and beat it up, but the points made about future sales now has me leaning the other way. In any case I paid a lot for a lesson that I could have gotten for free through AAPK. I wish I on this site before I saw this knife for sale. I got it from one of the E-bay sellers that we often see on this forum.
