Ward’s Knife Quality?

Post by HighCountry »

I’m looking for an everyday carry knife in a particular patten. I’ve seen a few for sale in the blade configuration I’m wanting tang stamped Wards.

I’ve never owned one of these knives. Are they generally of good quality for hard work (farm use)?

Thank you.

Wards did not make knives, they contracted others to make them and stamp the Wards name on them. Utica made some of them. They had brand names, such as POWR-KRAFT, that were the top of the line. Those stamped Wards may have been a secondary line but I’m not sure - someone here probably knows. Would have to see pictures of the knife to tell for sure who likely made it.

I’m a farmer/rancher. “Hard work (farm use)” is subjective. Most knives, if used as knives will hold up fine. If by “hard work” you mean using the knife as a screwdriver, pry bar, hammer, or other non-cutting tasks, then none of them will hold up long.

I have 2 Wards cattle knives. One has the spiral punch as seen on Camillus knives, the other has a punch style that is identical to another Utica knife I have. Both are very good quality knives.

See my post in General Knife Discussion, Oct. 30, 2020. I really like the one's I have; too nice for EDC or work, but still very well made. Some say by Utica or Winchester. Good Luck, J.O'.

Here’s one of mine. I’ve been tools it’s Camillus and others say Winchester, I don’t know. All I know is it’s NICE and the blades open and close like they’re on ball bearings. All the WARDS I’ve had were very nice. But I’ve not had any of the newer ones with Delrin.
