Is this Case knife a fake?
I saw this Case knife on eBay. A few things don't look right.
The tang stamp does not look right- PA is listed as P as far as I
could tell. Also it does not appear both blades have long pull
( I am assuming if one blade had long pull both would have it)
What do you guys think?
Bob

Looks a Little "fishy"
I'm sure others may agree.

Knife is real, but well worn and the pen blade is a replacement.
BTW, Case knives with long pull on the main blade will never have long pull on the small blades, at least on the older knives.
On modern knives like the 64052 they do put LP on the small blades, but never for any older Case knife.

Steve, I'm curious about the comment regarding older Case knives only having 1 blade with a long pull. Am I misunderstanding the comment or is this Case Tested XX 5394X with long pulls on all blades wrong?knifeaholic wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 3:18 pm BTW, Case knives with long pull on the main blade will never have long pull on the small blades, at least on the older knives.

Jerry; I should have added more qualifications to my comment. I figured someone would come up with one that I was not thinking of. There may be others.
I was thinking more in terms of jack patterns, penknife patterns, the 88 congress pattern, 47 and 75 stockman patterns, and maybe a few others.

Re: Is this Case knife a fake?
Steve, thank you for clarifying. I took a spin through my knife pictures - it's more fun than working.
- and have a couple of observations. It seems common for the 3 blade 94's with a spear main to have multiple blades with long pulls. The 394 1/2 (i.e., clip main) examples do not have multiple blades with long pulls. It is common for the 94J to have both blades with long pulls, but of course there are no "small" blades on a 94J. I did not observe any pen blade on any pattern to have a long pull. I saw a couple of 45's with long pull sheepsfoot blades, but even then the pen blade was a regular pull.
I never paid much attention to secondary long pulls before, but this is a good thing to remember when evaluating old Case knives.

Good info - but I have never seen a 45 with long pull on a sheepfoot - can you post pics when you get a chance?
Thanks

Re: Is this Case knife a fake?
As to the OP knife, IIRC I sold that knife as part of a "parts" lot of a couple of knives a few months ago on ebay.
I'll see if I can find the original pics.

Re: Is this Case knife a fake?
Steve, my attention to detail is lacking - none of my 45's have a long pull the sheepsfoot, only on the spey (see pictures).knifeaholic wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 9:59 pm I have never seen a 45 with long pull on a sheepfoot - can you post pics when you get a chance?

Some of the 6394 have the long pull on the sheepsfoot (see picture), and it seems uncommon. The Gunboat 94 seems to be the most likely to have the long pull sheepsfoot and long pull on all blades.
