This can't be right - can it?

A place to discuss & share pictures of counterfeit knives. Please be sure to alert the AAPK community if you spot one. Also make sure to ask questions if you are not certain about the authenticity of a knife you are considering buying or selling. There are plenty of great people here willing to help.

This can't be right - can it?

Post by just bob »

Pretty sure out in my junk box I have a knife with a shield like this that was made in China. Then look closer and the handles are glued on and have no pins holding them on.

From the looks of the jigging, it looks like the entire handle was taken off a cheap knife. And maybe the small clip point blade as well.

I'm going for Pakistan.
Looks like someone purchased a set of tang stamp and was looking for a cheap knife to try them on. ::td::

Well, it does have an interesting bird on the shield. Maybe that is a "Cattaraugus bird"? ::ds::

Those show up pretty regularly. I think the consences is far east. I have one like that. I have seen them with bright yellow handles. That is the first one I have seen with a tang stamp

Agree, and if we knew the length would help ,but didn’t see it mentioned.
This 72 junkie may go after if price stays low.

I found mine. It is 3 1/2" long. I feel certain this is from China but it isn't marked at all. Ripster if you collect this pattern don't waste your money on the ebay knife. I have no interest in keeping this and will be glad to see it go to a good home. We can work a trade out on something I'm sure just PM me.

Was more curious than anything . But Skip verified the shield and several other things in a post elsewhere. It was a conversation piece type thing.
Thank you for your offer, was hoping that I didn’t step on any toes going after a beater. You do see a lot of wannabe 72s etc, etc, .We all learn a little ,laugh a little, sometimes we even score a dandy .
Do appreciate the offer , take care ::tu::

I have a yellow one. Don't remember where I got it. I think it was a gift. No marks on it whatsoever except for the bird on the shield Very crudely made but the main snaps like Oprah on a pork chop.

I gave that one to you Jerry. And as you can tell I always only give the best and most expensive gifts. And it appears that you were properly impressed with such generosity.  ::tounge:: ::tounge::

It'll be my second with that "bird" shield.
But it'll be my first with "CATTARAUGUS" tang stamped blades.
I can't wait to get this one!
:D

***** EDIT ***** EDIT ***** EDIT *****
I checked and I evidently DO NOT have a CAMILLUS 72 variation/clone
pocket knife with the "bird" shield. This will be my first one.
