Hello--New Guy here
Hello everyone, been browsing the forums for a while and seems like a real nice place. Not a collector yet but definitely feeling the urge. Found a new in the package Colonial Ranger by accident on Ebay a while back and bought it. Yeah, I had to open it. While looking for info on it I ended up here reading Bonfire Bob's posts in the Colonial forum. Man that was a mistake. Things have kind of snowballed on me and now I am up to my knees in old Colonial knives. I know they are not especially valuable or even collectible but they do put a smile on my face when I look at them so there's that I guess. Not really a collector by nature but this does seem addictive.

Welcome to AAPK. And to the addiction!
Anything is collectable if you like it. That smile on your face and the enjoyment from researching our finds is what it’s all about. That and the hunt for the next one.

If the question is what's it worth, you are an investor.
If the question is, do I like that, you are a collector. In everything the answer is always, but what do you like. If it turns out to be valuable all the better, if not you enjoyed it while you had it. Welcome

Thanks for the warm welcome. I've always liked pocket knives but never had any urge to collect any more than the ones I used on a regular basis. Now I'm old and retired got too much time on my hands I guess. Hope I can contribute at least a little to the group.

Now you have begun the slide down the slippery slope. Also if you stick around here for awhile and just read, you will have to change your name as you will no longer be "clueless". lol

Hold on a minute or two here. We are all adults here and capable of making our own decisions. Just because the Camillus 72 is such a premium and desirable knife there's no reason to blame me for your weaknesses.

Re: Hello--New Guy here
Welcome to AAPK. Glad you've joined us here. I think you've already made a couple of good moves in your collecting efforts. First, you've chosen to start your collection with knives that aren't going to cost a fortune or aren't likely candidates for counterfeiting, and second, you've begun doing research about the knives that have captured your interest. Kudos to you on both counts. One of the great things about the knife collecting hobby is that there's no wrong way to do it. We all have our preferences in pattern, brand, era, etc. All of them are right and none of them are wrong.

You are starting in the right frame of mind, collect what you like, everyone has differing opinions and likes. You just make sure it is fun, and it looks like you are on the right track.

I want to thank all you guys for making me feel welcome here, seems like a great place. But I joined mainly so I could ask a question about collecting in general. If it's ok I am going to start a new thread about my question.
