Need Ideas for Cutlery related paintings
Here’s the scoop, my Wife is a Artist, and has been kind enough to ask if I would like a painting, sketch,Black /white graphite piece or 2. Well that got the gears a turning, and many things come to mind .
If you had a opportunity like this , but only could get one ,because of limited availability, what would you have done.
My thoughts are of a pic posted here somewhere that shows Cutlers lying on there bellies at the grinding wheels. The dogs are on the back of there legs ,to keep them warm? Also one of guys sharing a drink and hanging out.
If someone could help me find those pics or where they’re located ,would appreciate it.
So now you know where this is going, how about some feedback .
Also know there are other artists out there, any feed back from you would be great .
Thank you ,stay warm and safe out there!

Thank you Lee, that’s the pics. You saved me having to look around .
Have also thought about the pre electric days of a photo of water wheel outside one of the brick buildings. Been looking on line of historic Buildings in the cutlery business, and there’s a lot of neat photos.

Re: Need Ideas for Cutlery related paintings
Bob ,will try to answer your guestion . What I can remember from the article is that was common practice in that time period. It was better than standing or sitting , it kept there feet off the wet floor as well, as a lot of water was splashing everywhere, notice the wooden shoes.
The dogs would literally help keep them warm ,along with the occasional drink.
Hope that helps ! There’s a bunch of good stuff here on the forum ,just can’t remember where. If interested, and I run across , can post the link .
Too me it’s something you don’t see often and even a lot of knifers aren’t aware ,or maybe don’t care about Cutlery history , but I like knowing some of that.
Thanks for your interest, have a good one.

No Sir, she’s done some engraving, with her jewelry background and artistic talents. I’ve got a Case Cheetah here somewhere she did, will look for it. I think she just enjoys the oil and canvas ,or graphite on linen more! Appreciate your asking !

Hello JP
I believe the location of this very old "Water Wheel" and ancient "Brick building" is European, I downloaded it a couple years ago and posted it within aapk in reference to another subject. Unfortunately I have no other details of its location or purpose. A very beautiful historic picture.
I would love to see what your very talented wife could do with this picture.

Oh boy!!! Just posted Dan back then I scroll down and see this beautiful Blue piece of Cutlery !!!!! Now that would like good on our main hallway / Dining room wall !
Thanks FRJ, that’s also a possibility, using a knife, and of course my favorite color is blue .
Hmmm, maybe I can get on the list for 2 pieces, I wouldn’t be buying “ more knives “ , she’d be selling two paintings, a win win .

Thank you, JP, and you are welcome.
Thank you, Dan.
Dan, that Case 9 dot toe nail was beautified by our own Muskrat Man several years ago.
I bought it second hand from the person who owned it originally.
The covers are Mastodon tooth. Not my usual go to knife but it really spoke to me.

I think that the pocket knife boxes would make excellent painting subjects.

Dang Skip that’s a great idea! I really think the art work on the older Cutlery boxes and Company logos is very Classy. The only concern is copyright, which we’ve discussed. Heidi ( my wife ) is a stickler on that ,which I respect . But there’s a time thing with companies out of business ,so more Research there . Always thought the Cattarugus logo(s) are very neat .New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 12:29 am I think that the pocket knife boxes would make excellent painting subjects.
So yes thank you , glad that there’s no rush ,she’s a few month out and has too prep the Canvas . Have decided to go with oil on canvas , so it’ll be months before the prep work is dry and ready for paint .
Have a good one out there. Appreciate your feedback Sir

There are a bunch of old photos of cutlery making posted on the Wawarsing knife museum site. Not sure about copyright etc. But thought they would be worth a look for you
