Comfort Knives!

Nick, that is a nice pair of EDCs . Have several Anvils ,but never a blonde one. There’s a joke there somewhere but will leave it be. All kidding aside, they’re a decent knife, at a great price range.

Hello Ripster thanks. I've started my collecting out just buying inexpensive knives mostly Colonials thanks to the posts by Bonfire Bob in the Colonial forum. I really wish he was still with us. Some folks have indicated that they have done the same when they started out and now wish they had bought better knives from the beginning. I have some new and unused but most are like this old anvil old and beat up but I like them. I don't know that I will ever have as nice of knives as what you guys show here but it's cool to see them everyday.

Wow Nick , sounds like many of us, some new ,some used ,some broken. As the years have gone by ,things have changed,as always, and my focus changed. The boys are on there own , house is paid for , and retired, so my finances have changed ,along with knowledge and desire. My fist knife was a old Sabre ,cost a buck,the most recent cost a lot more bucks. As time goes on the hardest thing for me is to stay focused, I don’t need every knife. So my Camillus group grows slowly,with standards in mind .
Yet have my EDC one that bring great pleasure. You are doing what I consider the right thing, ask Questions,get involved,make mistakes or solve a situation regarding a knife. It’s good to see you getting around the forum, it’s what you make it,and for many of us it’s a big part of our daily life’s.

Mark, here you go , this Maher Grosh is made here in USA . A fellow member is involved in the ownership of the company that made this fine piece of Cutlery. Bought it earlier this winter or last fall , like the boys knife, it’s small fits well in pocket. Used to take the chains off the cheap ones We had as kids . This one though, is a true comfort knife, as it brings back fond memories !

It doesn't take long Nick to find your way around here! I just decided one day to explore the forum, and that's how I came across all the subs. There are a few that I visit regularly, and some that I only visit if a certain link takes me there. Once you don't feel quite so overwhelmed by it all, sit back and explore, and you'll see how easy it really is.

It doesn't take long Nick to find your way around here! I just decided one day to explore the forum, and that's how I came across all the subs. There are a few that I visit regularly, and some that I only visit if a certain link takes me there. Once you don't feel quite so overwhelmed by it all, sit back and explore, and you'll see how easy it really is.

While I don't have a "comfort knife" by Mark's definition, I always have a knife in my pocket that will come out for some fondling from time to time. I would say I do find comfort in that. Some may find it odd, but during those times I like to open the knife and take pleasure in the edge I've put on the blades. Having a sharp knife in hand is just, well, comforting!

I posted this knife's brother the other day, so I'm showing it's counterpart in today's post! This model is identical to the model with white ABS covers, but with dark faux tortoise-shell covers. Measuring 8" oal it's a manual humpback folder/SS drop-point blade with n/n, SS ornately engraved bolsters, SS liners, brass pins, and the aforementioned faux tortoise-shell covers with faux abalone inlays. Weighs-in at about 4 oz.'s, and came scary-sharp. The knife is totally unmarked, but since I ordered it from China it's a safe bet it was made there. I already owned the auto versions of these knives, and being a fiend for sets, I got the manuals to compliment them. The 2nd pic shows both models for comparison purposes!

The RR Peanut is used for misc. cutting tasks.
The yellow SAK is because I just love looking at it.

This is patern 14 From Maher Grosh. Believe your thinking of one of the GEC , or other brands of Tidoute or something like it , not much into those . Someone may come along and explain it better. This is commonly referred to as boys knife .

Today’s little comfort is a canal street Ring turn . The neat thing about this one is was made by a Cutler who’s a member ,bought from another member. So with that , I know it’s a early production,and didn’t come with box or slip when made early on . The seller and Cutler got together and arranged to get me the box and slip, when that wasn’t part of the deal . So it comforts me when I think , there are a lot of pretty decent folks here.

It's a Taylor Cutlery "Elk Horn" slip-joint E-O folder that is 6 3/8" oal/SS sheepsfoot blade with n/n, brass bolsters liners shield and pins, and faux MOP covers. Weighs but a couple of oz.'s, and arrived shaving-sharp. Has T/C and E/H markings, and was built in Japan. Cool little knife!

I got this little gem awhile ago, and am now just getting around to examining and playing with it! It's a Parker Cutlery Co. slip-joint "Little Pillbuster" Dr.'s knife that's 6 3/4" oal/surgical SS drop-point blade with n/n, NS bolsters, brass liners, invisible pins, and genuine MOP covers. Weighing just shy of 2 oz.'s, and sharp. Has PCC stamps and etches, and was built in Japan. There is a tiny ding in the MOP that is visible to the naked eye, but when I run my finger over it it remains smooth to the touch. Since I don't know how MOP is structured, this tiny defect has me fascinated. How did it get there and still leave the surface smooth? I've always liked Dr.'s knives, and this one is the sweeter of the 2 I own!

Is this a newer knife or older? I have always shied away from Parker knives I guess but that sure is pretty. Maybe if I bought some of them I get some classier knives huh?
