A,"threefer" today.......

Post by knife7knut »

Went antiquing today and found these three.
First up is a "Camillus Titanium".Not sure if this is a USA made model or one from,"across the BIG pond".The unusual thing about it(to me anyway)is the handles. There are repeated images of a fixed blade knife running along them.
Second is a Gerber 600.Pretty big but surprisingly light for it's size and it is USA made.
Finally is the prize: A Voos(arrow through the name)bone-handled barehead jack that appears to have never been sharpened. Someone did take a buffer to the blade to try(I think) to remove some of the age spots.Beautiful and flawless bone handles with steel liners AND bolsters and hand hammered pins. When I first saw it the master blade was sitting proud and I thought the tang might be soft.Turns out the was a knotted piece of string(probably from another price tag)inside the valley. Pulled it out and everything was fine.
Price was good too: $10 for the Camillus;$12 for the Gerber and $21 for the Voos. A good day.

i woke last night to the sound of thunder
how far off i sat and wondered
started humming a song from nineteen sixty two

With deals that good, you might need to go back and make sure there wasn't any under something else in the store. Great finds.

Actually the store that I got the Voos from has literally hundreds of knives in just two vendor's booths. One of them just bought over ten thousand dollars worth of old knives! The problem is I think he is trying to recoup his investment in one knife! Most of the knives he bought were Case and the prices he is asking are more than they would sell for in mint condition.
The other vendor has mostly newer knives and the prices are way out of line.Sadly they will eventually realize this and close up their booth and move on. The knife I got came from a third vendor who used to have a large assortment of knives but eventually sold most of them and concentrates on other stuff now.
