Nazi Knife, Real or Fake?

Post by Knifeguy2304 »

I got this knife from my grandfather when he passed away. I have never been able to find it on google by searching and was hoping you guys could help out. I have attached pictures. Any help would be great. In case you cant read it. On the blade it says SOLINGEN. Those are the only words on the knife.

Hi. When you do your search, include "MERCATOR" & "OTTER-MESSER" in the description.
You'll see MANY of these.
The one pictured below is on Amazon as of this posting.

If it's Nazi it should have a serial number on it, I'm pretty sure.

Welcome to AAPK. As stated it’s a fairly common knife. Since you’ve said there are no other markings, what would make you think it’s a “Nazi knife”?

I meant letters. The only letters on the blade at are the hinge and it says solingen. If you look at the blade there is a nazi symbol.

I don't know how I missed the swastika.
More than likely, it's a FANTASY piece.

Eustace has confirmed the knife to be a "fake", i.e. not in anyway connected to Nazi Germany. And as shown in post 2 you can buy the same knife without the swastika on Amazon right now, i.e. it is not an old knife.
People buy these and then put on the swastika etch and sell them as vintage Nazi knife for a big profit.
Mercator makes a decent knife and their blades edge hold very well. It is a good knife to use, especially outside like camping or having a picnic. You can uncork the wine !
