First blade.......................................
Hey all,
After trying for months to find a place to set up shop, I finally got fed up and just set up in our garage. The wife doesn't have a problem with it, in fact she suggested it! We live in the country but in a small subdivision, and I was hesitant because of the neighbors.
Anyhow........................... I'm off and running, here is my first blade. It's hand forged from 52100 round stock, annealed, heat treated and has undergone the first of three tempers. Next, I solder on the brass guard, add the leather washers for the handle, finish it off with an antler crown, and polish her out. Will post pictures when it's complete. I wish the pictures would show the really cool amber tone the steel has taken on from the temper process.
Take care..............................

Looks like a great start to me Gary!
I wished I could forge, but I don't think my shoulders would take the pounding.
I have to do mine by stock removal.
Be sure and take pictures throughout the process and let us see how you make your first knife.
Keep up the good work!

Way too cool Gary!
I admire ANYONE who can make a knife. Stock removal would be hard enough, but forged has got to be in a league all its own! Lookin forward to the pic's.

Please feel free to send it to me when it is finished and I will give you my un-biased opinion.
Don't worry. You KNOW I'll send it back.

Ok looks great & I got to try it. Is there a good source that gives the Heat treating temps and the other info you need for the various steels. That's a beautiful blade no matter how many someone might have made!
