I took a chance by assuming this Microtech Ultratech would be worth the money.

In short...it's easily worth double the MSRP. This knife is slick, sharp and amazing.

I may not buy any other brand.

Welcome to AAPK, that's pretty high praise and quite the resolution. Would love a little review of why you would pay double and give up all others? Bold statement for sure, but know nothing of the brand or price. Thanks and it's all tongue and cheek too, no dish or offense at all on my end. They are sleek lookers, congrats on the score.

Please don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting no other brand or style of knife is worth buying! Lots of other companies make fantastic knives. This is just my opinion on why I'd happily pay more for this particular knife.

When I first started collecting knives, I'd buy really cheap, low end stuff. Knives like that do have their place, but I never appreciated how beautiful a knife could be until I was gifted with my first Kershaw Blur. After that, I've never again looked at or considered buying the cheap stuff .

I'll give my impressions of why I love this knife soon...

Are both edges sharp ?
Is it an auto ?
I don't find the dagger blade profile to be useful as an everyday user. Except for stabbing, what else does it do well ? Serious question as i have no experience using this type of blade.

Yes to both questions. It works really well for everyday things like cutting boxes, twine, stripping cable, etc. The blade is Carpenter 204p and is VERY sharp. I imaging this blade works really well for EDC defense.

Other impressions...

Microtech is 100% American made. I love supporting American industries when I can. All parts are made in house. The balance in my hand feels great, and the thumb slide is SMOOTH. It both extends and retracts the blade.

It's something you need to experience to appreciate it.

I have a few Titans and Lightnings but the American made Microtechs have caught my attention. The offshore ones I have are nice beaters and function flawlessly but I have never EDCed them for a real world test. I painted these two up to look like the Star Wars/Mandalorian inspired Microtechs, each of these were under $30. I imagine the blades in these are 420/440 at best.

I am kind of with you KJ, it's not a practical blade shape for my usage other than stabbing. Since I don't do much stabbing these days.
Back in the 1980s and the cutlery store I sold a young man a Western double-edged boot knife. Both edges were sharp and he bought? it because he was working in the fields harvesting produce, I think it was cabbage that he was harvesting he was using the knife to harvest. He brought it back in several weeks after he bought it to have it sharpened and I asked how it was working as a cabbage harvesting knife? He said it worked great and he especially liked it because it stay sharp well and when 1ne blade got dull, he rotates the knife 180° and has a fresh sharp blade.

That may be an explanation of why we have so many blade patterns, it just may be that some people prefer a uniquely designed blade.
It wouldn't be my first choice but to each his own I guess.

Not an expert on Micro-tech or other knives of that type either, but my son carries a ProTech - same OTF style automatic. But his has a drop point blade, only one edge. They’re available with several different types of blades. Just one of the features he likes about his is it’s a left-handed version.

Beware - the real ones aren’t cheap. Chicom made fakes and knock-offs abound on line, for a fraction of the price.
