Free is good............
The flea market across the street from me finally opened today.Didn't find too much in the way of knives........except.....someone gifted me this one.It was sitting on his table and after we talked a bit he said,"Why don't you just take it along;I doubt it will ever sell in that condition!" Thanking him and giving him a coin,I went along my way ;not finding anything else.
Got it home and started to see if I could at least make it presentable. A previous owner who obviously hadn't received his,"grinder license"yet had worked over the blade and the pile side handle was missing a piece.
The first order of business was to see if I could straighten the edge without removing too much metal and take away some of the grid marks on the sides.Used my 1x30 belt sander to straighten the edge and then put a rough edge back on it and re-did the swedge.Finished it up with 220 grit wet-or-dry paper.
The handle I repaired by using a scrap of ivory from a broken table knife. The color and grain is remarkably close to the French ivory that is on the knife. It's not perfect but the gap has been filled.

Very nice save, Ray, and a great price. You can't beat free!
. Now you just need some mellons to test.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!
