folder spring

Post by Brent »

I finally found a piece of steel that would work. I found some old saw blades that was the right thickness. It still didn't turn out as good as i wanted but it is functional. I am going to give the lockback a shot using the tool steel as the spring. I also ordered some titanium to try as a spring and some to try as a liner.
I am including a damascus knife pic. i bought it off ebay, I know it was made in Pakistan, but it was affordable. It is very sharp. I think i am going to etch it a little.
My knife has green canvas micarta handles. does anyone know the best way to finish micarta?

If it is paper micarta I just sand, polish & wax and it gets real polished & shiny.
Cloth micarta is pretty hard to finish, just sand it & leave it. It is usually for heavy use & a good grip.

Here is a Camillus CQB I did in linen micarta. It was for a guy in Iraq.

that was sort of the way i thought mine would look, with the thread showing. I think i am going to trim it down and resand the handles. I think i may clean it with paint thinner and try waxing it. thanks for the pic.

I like to finish the canvas with about 150 grit paper....makes it just the right amount of "grippy" for my tastes.....not so pretty, but it feels solid in my hand.

Here is the micarta handle knife after i slimmed it up. I think it looks better. I just put some wax on the handle, it has that slightly rough feeling. I put my big anvil in the pic also.
