Replacement scales on Ulster?

Replacement scales on Ulster?
I just acquired this Ulster knife - which is from the 1876-1941 period. However, just a question about the scales. Nice wood, smooth, looks great. However, the only way I know to describe it is "raw" - that is, no polish, no shine. That, along with imperfection at the right corner of the scales, makes me wonder if the scales may have been replaced at one time. Anyone have an opinion on this?
