The latest release from Daniels Family Knife Brands

Post by Rookie »

The latest release from DFKB is the Tuna Valley popular Phoenix Jack pattern, in beautiful Catalina Wine Mixer Bone handles, with 154CM steel blade. Quite the looker.

They are very nice. I have one that I plan on taking some photos of and showing in my Tuna Valley photography thread. Hopefully I get some time to take knife photos soon.

I wasn’t a fan of the Damascus Catalina Wine Mixer Bone handles but this version with 154CM steel blade is nice. ::tu::

I didn't realize they also made a green maple burl wood with 154 CM, did you happen to get that one also. I own quite a few swaybacks, customs, 47 Viper, CK to name a few and all of them have great action and excellent F&F. What's your opinion on how the Tuna Valley's are built.

Yes I have that one as well. I have all 7 that have been released so far. They are all great finish, lots of character in the handles. Grinds are perfect. The pulls on these is harder than average, but I've noticed swaybacks patterns in general often have a stronger pull. These have very strong 1/2 stop and snap closed with force. Here is the latest production schedule with what has been released, and what is coming up.

Just announced, the newest release from the Daniels will be the giant rooster knife called the Gun-COCK-Jack. A traditional cockfighting knife made on a gunstock pattern, and a massive 4 3/8 inches closed. All blades/tools are 200 layer burl Damascus. These will be available in a variety of exotic handle materials.

The knives made by Daniels look to be of superior quality, but they haven't made anything that appeals to me yet.
Some in my opinion are down right silly. Don't attack, just my opinion.

Certainly, different patterns appeal to different collectors. I have all of the Tuna releases so far, and have handled a few of the other brands, and they definitely are made to a very high quality of fit and finish. I know there are a lot of upcoming projects in various stages of development, so I'm sure one of the new patterns will catch your eye sooner or later. ::tu::

At $580 - $650, I think the Sea Serpents will be on the shelves for awhile. I’m just not a fan of Damascus, or really that design for that matter. Maybe they’ll produce a reasonably large run of something at a price point competitive with GEC to make them a real contender.
I’m a long time collector in search of rare and limited GEC AND Northwoods knives. Always looking to add ivory pieces to my collection. PM to discuss sales or trades, please!

There are different levels of collectors with different tastes. These Excelsior knives are custom-knife level quality, and so they appeal to the guys that are attracted to custom knives handmade 1 at a time, and the price reflects that. The Napanoch and Tuna lines are made in batches, so there is more available product for the larger collector groups, and the overall price is a bit lower.

Speaking of Tuna Valley, this was just announced today. The new Phoenix Jack swayback pattern is available now. Nice looking Amber Stag, with 154CM steel blade.

Sure is. I got to see it in person at the KY knife show last weekend. Those knives are 4 3/8 inch closed, so pretty massive.
