Thanks John. Surprisingly it was around 1:00 and temps nearing 100. I was surprised that it was out and laying on a hot sidewalk. He said that he spots them the most often between 10:00 and 2:00.

Pics of "not much to see" are always interesting to me. That high bank along that waterway looks like a good spot for a group of Cliff Swallows.

Here is my snake picture from a few days ago. I was out checking the warbler migration and hoping to get some pictures, had to settle for a rat snake. It looks as if it had just recently shed, it is really shiny.

Great pic! I have one of those that lives around my barn. The boys call him Slimy George (the youngest one named him lol). He’s the best mouser on the place.

Most that I see, are in the 3 to 4 ft range. They can get up to 5 or 6 ft but I have only seen a couple as big as 5 ft. Maybe grow bigger down South
Not too long ago, I was mowing a fairly big, open expanse. I slowed down to let one about 3 1/2' cross ahead of me. I continued on, and as I got to the end and turned to go back, I saw a R T hawk swoop down and grab the snake. He flew up and perched atop a utility pole with it, so much for me saving his life!

What kind of “birds” were y’all hunting? Pheasant? We don’t have any of those here, but growing up we quail hunted with English setters and pointers constantly, every season. Good times! There are enough quail left to even fool with it anymore.

But as soon as the leaves fall we’re gonna be chasing ol my bushy tail with Pepper and Sally!

Floyd, that's a "possum on the half shell".
Once upon a time, many, many years ago we, when we were young and foolish, we ate a few Armadillos. We also tried a Cattle Egret and of course Eastern Diamondback was served several times. Alligator, soft-shell turtles, we even tried a mud fish or two and a gar fish. This was 55 to 60 years ago. We read in the National Geographic magazine where a man in Texas became a leper as a result of catching armadillos for research purposes. Seems the little critters have a form of leprosy that medical research could experiment with.
Our taste is much more refined nowadays. The last exotic dishes I had were before I retired from the school district about 12 years ago. Our carpenter would come up with something different every once in a while like Coon Hash or Bobcat Stew when no one had enough fish or venison for our special dinners.

The wife and I stepped out of the house yesterday to see these three just yards away.
Didn't seem the least concerned with us . I believe they're the mama and twins from last spring.
And our Confederate Rose is blooming in the background .. ... ..

Pen raised pheasants,partridge then woodcock when the flight comes in.
But as soon as the leaves fall we’re gonna be chasing ol my bushy tail with Pepper and Sally!
