Just me?

Post by cody6268 »

I don't want to start a political discussion here, and mods move it to that forum if necessary.

Am I the only one who is sick of all the ads from basically every PAC that has been pushing support for this excessive federal spending package? I have noted maybe ten (if not more) different PACs having ads on local TV, cable, and streaming pushing it. They conveniently leave out the important details (i.e allowing the IRS to snoop in your bank account) and sugarcoat everything else. They are very misleading. They have had them basically every commercial break.

Heck, despite an election in my state, ads for this whole dumpster fire have outnumbered ads from ANY candidate about ten to one. I've seen maybe ten campaign ads, but hundreds of ads for this mess. Political ads were, in part, why I personally moved towards streaming; but these ads have made me give up the "free" services as well for the paid services who don't run ads.

The amount spent has to be staggering. I would bet it probably surpasses what is spent on Super Bowl ads. Despite the ads supposedly criticizing the ultra-wealthy, I will bet 100% that a handful of big donors are what is keeping these ads on TV.

How is this humongous Porkulus bill going to be paid for? ::shrug::
This Country's already so deep in the red it would take a hundred lifetimes to pay it off. ::facepalm::

That is the biggest detail they have left out in my mind. No matter how much they increase taxes, there's still no way in heck they can pay it off.

Gentleman that is a world wide problem with a lot of Western Democracy, over here it is going to take who knows how long to pay off what we owe, if we can. But the state i live in, cannot possibly pay back what we owe, there just will not be enough going into state revenue, we have gone on a spending binge and what happens when interest rates rise, all that we owe is virtually at zero interest. There is an old saying, the chooks will eventually come home to roost, when we have been living beyond our means, there are always consequences. I won't be here to see them, but it ain't going to be pretty.

It's easy, they are going to mint some coins in the denomination of 1 trillion dollars each. Then deposit the coins into the Fed and withdraw the money in cash. Simple. I tried to get a couple of the coins at my local coin shop to give as Christmas gifts, but they haven't come in yet. I am first on the list.

Actually that is a really good idea for a 'joke type' Christmas present, fake $1 Trillion coin in aluminum instead of platinum. As long as coin has a disclaimer as not real currency you can't get dinged with counterfeiting. Might make $1 Million profit in just a few months.

Don’t know how old you are Derek, but chances are good that we all will see the horrendous consequences of all this spending and borrowing. The chooks will come home to roost soon and it won’t be pretty.
Governments are borrowing so much that it will soon make it hard for businesses to borrow. We already have banks all over the world that are required to keep their reserves in gov’t debt. It’s already restrained the recovery, especially in Europe. When the banks could be making loans that grow businesses, they are required to hold more money in reserves and to only hold that in gov’t debt. So the gov’t that borrows more than can ever be paid back, requires banks to keep more cash or equivalents than is necessary, then tells those banks that they have to buy the debt of the gov’t with those reserves. What happens when the amount of debt the gov’t issues gets to the point where all the banks have maxed out their reserves? That’s when the debt becomes a crisis. We are reaching this point sooner than most think.
What will the gov’t do when the debt becomes an issue? Personally, I think they will seize all our retirement accounts. Don’t be surprised if they also take your savings. It happened in Cyprus just a few years ago. Argentina took all the retirement accounts in one of their many crises. The pressure to monetize the debt will be the real crisis. When the gov’t prints money to pay bills or debt, you have the end of your gov’t, and most times the end of civilization.

As far as the ads, there must be a lot of special interest that are on the gravy train. They don’t care how much debt our country has, all they care about is getting the gov’t money and of course donating to Democrats a portion of that money they get.

What I have read about it is the law puts a limit on the amount of gold, silver, and copper coins in circulation. But it says nothing about platinum coins or denominations. So the idea is that it would be a platinum coin and it has been proposed that the image on the coin be of a financial criminal. Ponzi and Bernie Madoff have been mentioned. lol

We have one but I'm not sure who's pulling his strings but I'm reasonably sure it's not him.

We the citizens don't have time to worry about the breakdown of society because of the governments debilitating and growing debt. We're too busy with the Corona Virus concerns. Just when we thought it was safe to get on with our lives, we are being hit with warnings for the "far more dangerous" Delta variety virus. Can you say slight of hand? Keep them terrified of the big bad virus while we spend the citizenry into a debilitating debt they'll never be able to recover from.

"Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes COVID-19 has mutated (changed), resulting in different variants of the virus. One of these is called the delta variant (arising from Pango lineage B.1.617.2). The delta coronavirus is considered a “variant of concern” by the WHO and CDC because it appears to be more easily transmitted from one person to another. As of September 2021, delta is regarded as the most contagious form of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus so far." https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/ ... hould-know

Now they're pushing vaccination by saying we (the people) won't be allowed to do this or go there unless we are vaccinated. What happened to free will? Our freedoms are being whittled away bit by bit. If we continue down this path, I predict that the USA will become a third world dictatorship in the lifetime of my grandchildren (now in their 20's).

I really don’t know what to think of the mess this country is in. All political factions have contributed to it over the years. There is no easy “fix”. We can’t spend or borrow the way out. Tax the rich and big corporations sounds great as a talking point but it won’t happen. There will be more money going offshore, more tax loopholes used.
The rising cost of homes and farmland is not sustainable. It isn’t if but when that will burst.
At my age I’ll be OK, no debt, some retirement income in addition to SS and I’m stashing back cash.
As for Covid, I‘m tired of putting plans on hold. I will be traveling and visiting relatives and friends from coast to coast over the coming months.

Just my rambling thoughts……
