Comfort Knives!

I had 3 more manuals come today, but I'll post em' one-at-a-time so as to stretch em' out a bit! The first is this AG Russell "Strikeforce" lockback, and it's 8 1/2" oal/VG-10 blade with an oblong hole instead of a stud for 1-hand opening, aluminum bolsters, G-10 or C/F covers I'm not sure which, thick SS liners, adjustable pivot, lanyard hole, and a pocket-clip. Nice comfortable weight of about 4 oz.'s, and arrived extremely sharp. Has smooth walk and loud snappy talk along with impeccable fit n' finish. Built in Japan. The "run-up" where the tang meets the spine is invisible on this knife which is an indication of a well built knife. Marco, can you open this one handed with that hole? Got a couple of chinese kabar knives made like this but can not get enough grip with my thumb to get them to flip open. Of course they are not the same quality as what you have here. Great looking knife!

Hey Nick, good to hear from you buddy! The Strikeforce isn't spring assisted so there's no way to "flip" it open, but, it has an adjustable pivot so when you find the correct tension it's very easy to open with only 1 hand using the hole with your thumb. There's plenty of body to get a firm grip on. Don't be a stranger man!

As promised here's the 2nd of 3 recent acquisitions! This one is a SMKW Japanese Tanto slip-joint, and it's 9" oal/SS Tanto blade with a Samurai etch and very sleek n/n, black criss-crossed die-cast covers, SS pins, no liners, and no pocket-clip. I can only guesstimate the weight at about 6 oz.'s, and it came very sharp. Decent walk n' talk, and fit n' finish is acceptable. One of the coolest features of this knife is how the blade completely disappears into the channel when it's closed, it makes for a very clean profile. This was undoubtedly produced as a novelty knife, but it's so solid one could definitely find some practical uses for it. It'll join it's mates in my "unusual" pile!

The sources I've been using lately WILLIAM are, Mark's SSk store, a couple of AAPK stores that won't ship outside the US so Mark has purchased the items for me and added a very small mark-up just to cover his time, and, I found a REALLY great Canadian site, www.warriorsandwonders.com , or, "Blades Canada Cutlery" if you just do a search. This last one is NOTHING like Hero(who haven't changed their lousy policies BTW), they ALWAYS update their stock, have a HUGE selection, and ship VERY fast at a reasonable cost. The prices are in CDN funds, and although they seem a bit high if you do the conversion from US to CDN money and add the usually high US shipping charges, they are quite reasonable. You're welcome in advance WILLIAM!

Ah yes! I know that dealer you speak of. They expanded into knives big time 2 years ago... Their main thing is army surplus, pretty awesome selection and prices. And your supporting a prairie based company (Regina), so what's not to love!

Ah, that's good to hear, I always enjoy your knives and comments. I fully agree that when the Tanto is closed it could be mistaken for an OTF, and the pivot pin could also be mistaken for a pin to secure the cover on with.

A nice walden 861,a schrade 863 whitter and one of Jeffin's 8OT knives with mahogany bone. They all bring me comfort. My wife thinks I'm nuts.

This is the last of 3 I received a couple of days ago, and I must say, out of all of the 300 or so knives I've bought in the last 2 years this is the first I've been disappointed with. It's a Fury model 10335 forward lockback that's 9 1/2" oal/SS drop-point blade with n/n and partial swedge, SS bolsters, no liners, brown ABS covers, and no pocket-clip. I'd guess it's weight at around 5 oz.'s, and it came factory sharpened. It display lazy walk n' talk, and the fit n' finish is barely adequate. I don't know what I was expecting for US$55. but I guess it was more than I got. My first complaint is that the covers are brown, when in the sellers pics they appeared to be jet-black, even more so than my pics, and, they're secured with big ugly Phillips screws. Then I discovered that when the blade is folded closed in the channel I can shift it from side-to-side about a full 1/4", although, when it's open it seats tightly. It's really quite a shame because I love the knife's profile. "I want you, I want you, I need you, I need you, but there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you, now don't be sad, don't be sad, cuz 2 outta 3 ain't bad"!(Meatloaf)Seems fitting!

How’s things been going over here Marco ? Hope things are well up there for you . Here’s a old 4 line Camillus that purchased awhile back . Been finding myself sticking it in the pocket more and more .This one is over80 years old has great snap still and half stop on the smaller blades . It is built very well has milled steel liners and steel pins . The Old Cutlers sure knew how to build em . The main operates on the 2 springs. The 2 small pen blades operate on 1 spring . The springs have a wedge between them that allows this to happen. Some say this is the same frame that became the 72 Carpenters Whittler by Camillus ,which some say isn’t a true Whittler but that’s another subject that won’t get into here .

Beautiful little Whittler J.P.! It's good to hear from you, and things are going well for me, hope the same is true for you! I'll have 3 very nice autos to post soon, possibly 1 tomorrow and the other 2 as soon as Customs releases their blades, so be sure to come back for a look!

Here's a new one to provide some comfort today! It's an 11 1/4" oal RPK(Russian Prison Knife)single-swivel release stiletto/SS dagger blade, SS bolsters liners pins and button, adjustable pivot, and dark brown Delrin covers. Has a substantial weight of about 8 oz.'s, and came to me with both edges sharpened. Snaps open quickly with solid lock-up, and the fit n' finish is excellent. I stated "single-swivel release" because only the rear bolster swivels to close the blade, whereas most like this have both bolsters swivel. I do have one small complaint about my new knife, and it is that both blade edges were sharpened, because when I close any of my autos I depress the firing button first so as to relieve any undo wear n' tear on the sear-pin, and while doing this the sharp edge presses into my palm risking a cut, but other than that I love the knife. For anyone who still doubts the Russian prison connection I'd suggest you read my explanation in the Switchblade Collectors forum in the last post of the "Some of my autos" thread and then draw a conclusion. I included a picture of my other RPK to show the similar builds!

This was the 2nd half of a package I received yesterday! It completes my set of Cold Steel Tai*Pans and is the satin finish model. It's 13" oal the same as the other 2 models and is identical but for the satin hardware. Has a CPM 3V dagger blade, SS bolsters/guards/pommel, and black checkered Kray-Ex covers. I included shots of the other 2 knives in my set!

LOL! Hey Nick! If you go to "General Knife Discussion", which is this sub-forum, and go to page 4 and scroll down until you see "CAVES AND DISPLAYS! LET'S SEE YOURS!", on page 5 about 1/2 way down, you can see my current set-up. To the left of the picture is the wall you speak of, and it's got rows that have 2 knives in each holder because I got all these big knives and of course they won't fit in the leather pouches so I had to double-up in some spots. I'm still looking for a glass-topped set of drawers so I don't have to worry about dust accumulating, but no luck so far. I've found some that would be perfect, but the companies won't ship them to Canada. I've since bought another pouch from what you see in the picture, but just haven't got around to doing a reorganization. The pictures you were referring to are on page 1 about 3/4 of the way down, if you want to do a comparison of what they looked like then and what they look like now.

I prefer to have my knives visible to me rather than in a drawer. Because the house is pretty well sealed dust is not a big problem. An occasional feather dusting is adequate. Perhaps you could leave a few of your favorites out where you can admire them.

When you get to be my age Nick, ya gotta find stuff to occupy your time, and knife collecting works perfectly for me. I started 2 years ago with 1 knife, and now I've accumulated nearly 300 autos, manuals, and fixers. It's incredibly addictive, but in a good way!

Thanks for the compliment and suggestion Garry! I too much prefer to be able to view my knives as opposed to having them stuck away in some drawer, and fortunately I recently saw a display that was in clear stacked drawers so there was no mistaking what is in them. Of course they're not all visible, but your suggestion of leaving some of my favorites visible would work perfectly if I were to put them in the top drawer that has a clear top. I'm just awful when it comes to housework, so solving the dust problem is a big priority for me, and that just might do it. Thx again!
