Cars, trucks, rat rods and hot rods

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Here’s a few pics of the car shop and some latest cars . The Brass era Buick is a friends car that we need to do some work on . Ken and little Brother had it down in Iowa at a road rally and has some maintenance issue from that last trip . And a few pics of the Maxwell and other cars sitting around . The 68 Chevelle arrived a month or so ago . And the 1930 Rolls Royce “ Phantom 2 “ Drop head Coupe . It’s wheel base is 150 inches and the biggest Vehicle in our shop . They only made 1200 of them in a five year period . The Silver Ghost is the first model then the Phantom then the Phantom 2 being Rolls Royces 3rd model .Hope I got that right ! This car came from overseas ( note right side steering) and some other things are a give away. We bought it thru a friend out in Arizona . Just got it and would like to take it out but it’s winter here so like many good things will have to be patient .

Dave. The Chevelle has the wrong fender emblems it should be 327or 307 ? not the 350 have to dig into that further . A few minor additions as someone put some non factory personal touches to it .
John ,here’s a few pics from today. The head that is off is the Locomobile Car ,don’t know why thought it was the Lincoln. Either case we got the head on still have to set manifolds and carb then fire it up . Loaded up the 1933 Packard for the upholstery shop . And the 33 Victoria is been painted black and Jeff’s wet sanding then will buff it out and go into final assembly and upholstery shop by February . Including a Mini Cooper pic that’s a fast little car and it’s stock . Sister in laws Car and she wants to sell it and get something else ,not sure what but this one will sell fast . Been pushing it around the shop all year so be glad to have it out of the way . The name plate from Australia is the Company that built the body for the Rolls Royce .
Take care out there Everyone and stay safe.

Here’s a few more Shop pics for you John . With the Winter winding down ,hopefully, it’s time to start thinking about upcoming shows and other events . We pulled the wheels off the Rolls and had to make a spanner socket out of 4 inch pipe to get the hubs off . And the 1933 Victoria is about ready to go to the Upholstery shop . Have to finish up some wiring and msc things and then load it up and drop off . Hopefully the other 33 ,the two tone tan one will be ready to pickup at that time . The old Brass era Buick is on the hoist and pulled the tranny and needs to be gone thru . It’s pretty simple so think we’ll do this in house. Been rather slow over the winter ,but Car shows will be coming soon .
Take care out there ,catch you all later

Tom and RW , Thanks much fellas. We’re blessed to have the new place and everything . It’s been a 60 plus year journey ,starting with Gramps on the old Hiway 53 shop.
If anyone is ever up this way give a holler and we’ll put some brats on and get a couple Cars out and go for one of our Ice Cream runs. Which could lead us any number of places. It’s hard getting to excited anymore about the cars ,but the people and the stories and Camaraderie are great .kind of like our knife thing ,very few knives get some excited ,but people and places and history can be alluring.
Time for another cup of high octane and then off to see a couple old friends.
Stay safe .

Afternoon folks. took the Father in law down to see what’s been happening at the Car shop . He’s got a old International pickup and 58 Chevy Belair and gets a kick out of stopping by . Brother Jeff and him get along and talk Cars . Not much has changed since a few weeks ago . Got the Tan 33 Packard back from upholstery shop. The black 33 Victoria is about to go get upholstery. The Rolls is getting some pieces sent to chrome shop . Have a old Buick and couple things coming soon ? Trying to get all these Cars ready for the big show here in June. Lot depends on parts and the speciality shops right now
Think spring ,stay safe out there . ::tu::

There are some really nice cars in this thread. I admire the dedication and skill that goes into restoring and maintaining classic cars. I am not really a car guy, though I have had one since I was 16. I will work on anything but a car, I hate mechanic work... The only car that I ever lusted after was a '68 Chevy Chevelle SS396, Blue and white, Turbohydromatic transmission. I have a strong suspicion that I am able to write this 50 some-odd years later because I never got one. I knew a lot of kids that died in car wrecks in that time frame. Of course, it was not in my means back in the day, and I saw a decked out one ready for road racing for sale in Panama City, Fl. and they wanted about 70 grand for it so it is still not within my means.

One thing that youngsters seem to forget about the "Good old days" cars is that they were considered worn out at 50,000 miles, and they were death traps that would put a steering column through you chest and the engine in your lap with a 50 mph crash. No seat belts so everyone would get ejected, usually through the windshield glass, in a bad crash, leaving hair, teeth and eyeballs all over the road.

I still want that '68 SS 396....Of course I wanted to spend a weekend shacked up with Candice Bergen too, but like they say wish in one hand and (well you know the rest)

Wish in one hand is what my dad used to tell us kids. Glad I was smart enough to figure the outcome of that action. Those were the days but it is a frase I use with my son today.
