Fake Miller Bros Barlow With COA
This fake Miller Brothers popped up today, basically a Utica barlow with fake stamps, for some reason a lot of barlow fakes are made from Utica's. This seller is even pushing a COA from Smokey Mountain.

Re: Fake Miller Bros Barlow With COA
How can SMKW give a COA on a knife that supposedly was made decades before their business started ? Are they saying their experts certify that this is an all original knife ?
Did Miller Bros. use an arched stamp ?

Miller Bros used several tang stamps including at least one arched stamp.kootenay joe wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:18 am How can SMKW give a COA on a knife that supposedly was made decades before their business started ? Are they saying their experts certify that this is an all original knife ?

Seeing JohnR's beautiful old MB Jack with long pull and top swage really shows that blade on SMKW Barlow is a modern one.

I have several rolls of C of A's. We use them in the toilet often. How many do you want?

John, I hope you don't get too "swell headed", but I have to tell you that Miller Brothers in your second picture must be one of the best looking knives that I have ever seen. I'm glad the nobody has seen fit to polish the "character" off those blades.JohnR wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:43 amMiller Bros used several tang stamps including at least one arched stamp.kootenay joe wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:18 am How can SMKW give a COA on a knife that supposedly was made decades before their business started ? That too is what I have always thought of C of As. They should be printed on toilet paper, that way they would be useful for something.Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 4:48 am I have several rolls of C of A's. We use them in the toilet often. How many do you want?

Re: Fake Miller Bros Barlow With COA
What gives many of these knives away is the poor swedging, notice the sweding on toms knife and compare it to the miller. the is a person that spends a lot of time making these fakes, the bone is very nice and if he would just put his own name on them they would be worth something.
The guy pics some off brands and other ones like Miller and Russell that dont have pattern numbers or catalogues so these are easier to fake. he makes Holleys too.
I have a few an the bone work is quite good, Getting celluloid, ebony and pearl is not that bad. Bone is very hard and i would say impossible to match. I have a continental that is pretty dern good. THE BONE LOOKS LIKE ONE OF THE CASE CLASSICS. I CAN POST A PIC IF PEOPLE WANT TO SEE. i BUY THESE KNIVES TO GET THEM OUT OF CIRCULATION AND TO LOOK AT THE GUYS WORK.
aS BONE AGES IT GETS A PATINA AND IS ALMOST TRANSLUCENT, ESPECIALLY ON THE EDGE WHERE THE BONE IS POLISHED AND THE DYE DOESN'T PENETRATE AS MUCH.
ID LIKETO MEET THIS PERSON AS THEY ARE QUITE SKILLED BUT JUST PUTTING THE WRONG NAME ON THINGS.

So you are saying that you buy them and then destroy them to "get them out of circulation"?

Re: Fake Miller Bros Barlow With COA
The way I look at this is it is immaterial how much time some one spent on them or how much you paid for them. The person making them is a criminal fraudster, and by buying them you are financing the next wave of fakes to be foisted on collectors, including AAPK members posting here. If you are "taking them out of circulation" the least you should do is to mark them as fakes. They have tang stamps on them from old and respected knife companies, but were not made by those companies, but by someone misusing their name.celluloidheros wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 12:07 am Hello, I use them to educate myself and others. I think its interesting that a person with the skill to make these knives wouldn't put their own name on them. It's a forgone conclusion that counterfeiting knives is a terrible thing. I'm not angel myself so i try to let other people do the convicting and hanging.

If you look in the Crandall section in sargents Book, we labeled the counterfeit crandall stamps. In Gerald witchers counterfeiting book he even has a counterfeit mark listed as real. Joe Chance used to buy lots of Crandalls and i believe someone made the counterfeits for Joe because he had quite a few in his collection.,
