Another completed................................
This knife is made of 5160 from a John Deere load control shaft. It's reported that JD has some of the most stringent requirements on their steel for these shafts. Consistency I guess would be the term.
Anyhow.........................It's got a 5 1/2" blade, 10" overall. Sambar Stag handle with a few cute spacers, fits the hand like a glove. Piercing tip with a nice belly adequate for skinning. I satin finished the upper portion of the blade and left the bottom etched to reveal the grain structure.
The large ricasso area is for "fingers forward" of the guard to allow you to get your thumb or index on the spine for more control on intricate work. I don't really like the looks of the large ricasso space, but from a functional standpoint it makes since.
The cat was making sure I took good pictures.
Hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think.

Thanks you guys!
I may trim down the handle, it looks a little "fat". But it fits my hand so well! Guess I've got a fat hand!
Yep Phil..........this one got the full treatment.

Re: Another completed................................
Thanks Smoke!
Thanks Fog. It was a great trip, very informative! The cost of the seminar was less that one of his knives! Couldn't pass it up.
This is 152 cuts on some old nasty hemp rope from the same area on the blade, I was expecting more. It will get better with each honing, that curve is a trick to sharpen.
I found a few hot spots on the handle during the test so I took it down some.
