Very good job Nev. I found for some reason that those scales that had angles like that
were hard for me to get a good fit. Looks good though....
David,
Your right . It took me 3 tries to cut those scales

and I traced them off the ones that came with the knife !!

This will be the last one I will bore you all with. I am going to give it a break for a while until I buy some junk knives.
Rough Ryder small lock back kit. I added the maple scales. I feel like each one is getting a little better. Still have a long way to go.

I have a handful of junk/fixer knives that you’re welcome to if you want them.

I simply love the Maple covers, and I think you cut them very well! You have a great offer from Jeffinn in the above post, I'd take him up on it if I were you!

Also, you're not boring us in the least little bit, we love seeing another member succeed and show us the results! Please keep goin'!

The grain of the maple looks cool.
It can be tough to shape with those angled bolsters. Don't ask how I know...

Thanks' Glen,
I have never had so much trouble working with wood until these bolsters. I wasted a lot of good maple.

Hey Nev, If you’re interested I have a couple of books you can have. They’re a bit dated but they do have some good information.

I’m not a fan of the angled bolsters. It seems like if you’re off by even a few thousandths on one end or the other, you end up with a gap. They can be really frustrating to get right.

Here is one of the knives Jeff sent me to learn. I must say he sent me a lot of different knives to work and learn on. I would like to thank Jeff publicly for his kind offer to help me learn.
It is a two bladed Imperial shell handled knife.
#1 Removed old handles.
#2 I thought I would get rid of the shell handles so I soldered on some brass to make bolsters.
#3 I them shaped the bolsters to match the inner scales.
#4 I then drilled the old inner scales so I could pin on new scales.
#5 I had some cherry wood I used to make scales.
#6 I cleaned up the blades best I could and sander the rust off the spring and liners.
#7 I added a little bend to the spring to get some snap out of the blades.
#8 I assembled the knife and sanded to clean it up.
Here are some pictures.

One more Knife.
Jeff sent me a box of beater knives to work and learn on. I took a old Robeson Barlow and a Imperial stockman and made one knife. It was a small challenge. I had to modify the bolster holes and springs to work with the blades from the stockman. It took me all day but I got it done and am very happy with the finished product. I added a green G10 liner and then a white micarta scales to give it some pizazz

Here are some pictures.
Thanks for looking

Beautiful work Nev!

Everyday you tell us "one more, one more" and then you have a new build to show us, I love it!!!

This latest knife looks teriffic with it's older rustic looking blades and brand new shiny covers! Like I said yesterday, I can barely wait until you start pumping out custom builds!

Thanks Marco,
I am very happy with the way this turned out. It was a little challenging but I liked that. Hopefully I will continue to improve. Right now I am having fun.
Also it is giving me something to do to pass the time during the winter months.

Great job.

You are improving no end, and getting more advanced as you learn, well done. And you are enjoying it, and an added bonus, passing time in Winter.

Hey, I hear ya Nev!

With each build you get a little better and learn more, and I have absolutely no doubt you will continue to improve your skills. Speaking of winter months, it is currently -40 F with a wind chill value of -55 F here in Winnipeg/Canada where I live, so I'm quite familiar with the winter months, and what a great hobby to practice like knifemaking to help pass those months! And then there's that most important part, YOU'RE HAVING FUN!

Here is one more parts knife. It was a small Imperial stockman. It had no scales a broken blade and when I took it apart the liners were broken. So, I had some brass stock laying around. Well, I made new liner new bolsters and new brass outer scales. Then I made a set of maple scales and pinned them to the brass. I took the main blade and spring and made a single blade gentleman's knife. It turned out pretty good, but one bolster is a 1/16 longer than the other.and one pin is flat.

I did not notice it until I had it all together and pinned up.

It really bothers me, but I am going to use it for a while. It took me almost 2 days to do this knife. So, I will wait.
