Official Scout Blades by Ed Holbrook shows a black handled Camilus Cub Scout knife with the metal shield that was produced in 1946.

TJ are you sure that's not a correct stamp for that date ?

Not 100% but about 99%. (You'll never get an absolute from me) I think that is a 1960's stamp. As I recall, the stamp, in 1946, went from a four-line to either a three line with a short underline or a three line with no underline.

Who you callin' an old codger? Why ya young whipper-snapper, I oughter............... At any rate, I'd say that that takes the stamp to post 1946 at least. I think that some of those stamps are still in question. Sticking with 1960's and even into the 1970's

Wazu, that is a beauty! It is always a good feeling for me to walk into a retail store and but a US made Schrade or Camillus even though it is old, old stock. It makes me feel like just for a moment the universe is at peace!



I read the auction text of the guy selling the Scout camp knife on ebay. He is a few years off with that tang stamp; the long line stamp is generally accepted as being 1960-1976.

That #1047 has a lot of handle shrinkage. Way too much for me to pay that kind of money! Who ever gets it will eventually end up having to have the handles replaced, or else live with it in what ever shape the handled decide to shrink into, if you don't believe in repairing scout knives!

Assuming the tang stamp on that ebay knife is not correct for 1946 ( and I'm pretty sure it's not correct) then that knife is simply not right. It was not produced in that configuration during the later time period when that tang stamp was being utilized.

This cub scout knife is from the early to mid 70's.
Most were blue but you could get them in black and even white.
This knife also at one time was etched on the main blade before it was polished for sale.

I was a cub scout in the early 70's and remember you had a choice in colors you could pick with Camillus Brand.
Most everyone picked blue to match your uniform.

JW I don't think those 70s era Cub Scout knives had the silver(ish) metal shield like the one in the ebay listing has. By then the shields would have been either gold colored metal or plastic. Of course there's always the possibility that some of the older ones were still available at that time.

The ebay listed knife just doesn't look right.
The tang stamp is 60's 70's.
The scales don't look right for a 60's 70's Camillus scout knife.
They have liner pins. Camillus from that era didn't. The jigging does not look right either.
The screw driver blade looks to big also.
The knife looks too good to be from the 40's.
Looks to me, maybe an Imperial frame with Camillus main blade.
Most Imperial cub knives were black and had liner pins.

Also how many of these knives does this guy have?

Here's a snapshot of my cub knife.
I got this around 1972 give or take a few years.
Blue plastic handles, no liner pins and silvery metal shield.
Same tang stamp.

I think the Jury is leaning towards Frankenknife. Part of it could be 60's most likely some of it is 70's the scales have shrunk like 50's. the blade used to be etched, somehow white came into the topic? Hmmmmmm.... Frankenknife
Thanks everybody for putting your finger on it for me . Seriously I think Dale is right and TJ Murph is at 99% which is as good as anybody elses' 100%. Phil has been adding some expertise. All I really know somebody is going to pay to much for it

I rest my case Orvet. You da' man. Just remember that Jesus died for the sins of all mankind. You can have the last word. While we all help to make this Scout knife better it was shameful professional jealousy that only made the damaged item seem to have less faults than our own.
