Guys, please, what would you say is the difference between a "car show" and a "cruise in"? Had an issue at the Cruise In last night, will explain later.
I would define a car show as an event where a fee is charged to enter; cars are cla
ssed and compete for trophies or prizes. There are also prizes awarded for categories such as best paint; best engine, best interior, etc.. A cruise in is usually an informal gathering of cass, bikes, trucks. There is rarely an admission charge; there are no prizes or trophies. The original concept of a cruise was to get together to drive to a particular destination; the idea being to,'' cruise '' with your friends in your hot rod or custom or sports car. It has degenerated into sitting around in lounge chairs telling war stories. JMHO,
I agree 100%. It was advertised as a Cruise IN, bring your car, bike, truck, rat rod. So I pulled into the parking lot and see a spot between another Mini Cooper and a custom hot rod, pull in and here comes Bubba, "You can't park there!" Me, "why not, there's plenty of room on both sides", "You can't park there, this is a CAR SHOW, go park back there" Back and forth a couple of times, Bubba tells me the custom hot rod is his and worth a LOT of money(yes, it was nice) I give up having a discussion with him and pull out of the spot before my Irish temper goes off, drive around past the other cars and such. Circled round the lot and the spot was still there and Bubba wasn't so I parked.

Went inside where the concert would be starting, wondered around hoping I'd see somebody I knew with an extra chair at their table, no luck, standing at the end of the bar and a gentleman at a close table motioned to me and asked if I was alone, yes, join us. He had seen/heard the previous stuff. Talked cars with him and antiques & jewelry with his wife and daughter. And front row for the band!
When the band took a break I went back out to the parking lot and what do I see? An elderly couple getting into the custom rod and Bubba watching. Wasn't even his car! He got into a stock basic 80's Chevy pickup which he had parked in the same row of the "car show". Car people are nice but guess there's one in every crowd.
