it had not gone up in value the way you see things go for crazy prices nowadays 
I was the opposite TopDog. After being interested in knives in my teen years, I lost interest in my 20s-40s due to a riotous lifestyle mentioned a couple posts ago. I missed out on a lot, including knife collecting. I love this Bear & Son 4in Genuine India Stag Bone Sheepsfoot Barlow. Their Sheepsfoot Barlow has become my favorite Bear & Son pattern and I have been trying to collect them all. But don't be fooled by the good looks of this knife, it is a user! It has a very solid strong blade and locks up tight. I think they have done a great job producing this Barlow

Thanks T!!! Where did you post the Bonfire series one, I think I missed it. I just got a new arrival yesterday, but I have not posted it yet, it is a Bear & Son Red Stag Two-Blade Barlow and (I just checked for you... looks to be sold out ...) ... I am pretty happy with what I have got from them lately. I think Bear & Son represent a good value. Of course, I would always prefer to buy USA made any day (when they make a good product) What a cool knife, Tim, I must have missed it originally!

I have kept that Barlow next to my bed (I read a lot in bed ... 
actual books if you can believe that 
) ... and from time to time I pull that Barlow out of its cloth case and rub the bone scales between my thumb and fingers....

What and how you described pulling out your Barlow while relaxing in bed is EXACTLY the feelings and reason I called this thread "Comfort Knives" all those pages ago..."rub the bone scales between my thumb and fingers"... ! Originally, and perhaps even now, some folks didn't get the idea of a comfort knife, but as time goes by it seems more and more guys are warming up to the concept. I have always found it quite simple actually, anything that brings on a warm and fuzzy feeling in one is bringing them comfort, so why not my knives.

The action is silky smooth, but it takes some practise learning how to open/close the blade with only 1-hand via the rotary-lock.
Other than the wear and tear on the covers, the fit and finish is excellent.
It quite surprises me that the previous owner would actually use a knife like this, IMO it's much more of a display piece, then again, I likely wouldn't have been able to afford it had it not been offered used.
