Very interesting Joe!! Very rare to say the least...

After looking at our old Heritage Trapper's and Colonial's (Camillus) Trappers, I believe ours was a large Trapper and Colonial's was a medium...

Here's a bit of history for you folks...
This is one of our first BIG orders with Camillus Cutlery Company..even though Colonial backed out of thier comitment with us at Heritage and totally "boned" us, I was smarter than them and I had a SOLID back up plan!!

I still can't believe that Colonial blanked, stamped, and finished 500 sets of three blade stockman parts, JUST to trash them for scrap!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

Just for spite's sake..shame on them..

My backup plan worked...

Interesting stuff, Bobby!

First off) The yeller Camillus trapper measures only aprox 3 3/4"
while the S & W measures aprox 4 1/4".

Second) The cap bolsters on the Camillus measure 5/8" while the
the cap bolsters on the Smith & wesson are 3/4". The Smit & Wesson
is an allround a larger knife.

Third) Why didn't Camillus use the rivets/pins to hold the handle scale
on the knife at each end? It prolly would have prevented that big crack
at the center pin!

I will get into more detail when I do a pic comparison of the two knives.

You gotta be kidding...

Camillus trashed 500 stockman???
Well that also just makes me scratch my head. What made them do that?
(or did I just read that wrong)

Joe K. my dear friend...you seem to get everything ass-backwards!! haha..
COLONIAL "Boned Us" on the order we placed with them as I was peacefully leaving Colonial in 1995-96...

We had already incorporated Heritage and we were putting the factory together and my family was happy to get rid of me then!!!

We made an offer for machinery AND a sizable part order with Colonial Knife...are you with me so far??? WAY before we placed an order for stockman parts with Colonial, I had formed a solid relationship with Mr. Michael Dillon. plant manager of Camillus Cutlery Company...
Still with me??? (dam son, read your book; that's why I sent you one!).....

When I dig the original contract we made with Colonial and 500 "Old Cutler" grade blades and all parts, I'll post it...they made the parts for us and re-negged on the contract!!!
We never paid them and they refuse to sell us the parts and dumped them in the garbage.
Are you getting the picture me friend!!???????

My own family screwed us out of sure spite!!!!
I expected this SO I sent Camillus the business and a check for almost 30 K....
Here's the proof! Our first of many sizable orders with Camillus Cutlery Company...

Keep up the good work Jack and I applaud your love for your new found hobby; it just happens to be OUR favorite!!

I'm so glad your such a good sport and these attributes of yours are the same as my closest friends and will always be respected....

More importantly pal is that folks don't misunderstand and think that Camillus did anything wrong; they DID NOT! It was Colonial that rear-ended us, or tied to!!

Your package is on it's way! You should have enough rivets to fix or repair any Colonial and or any large Camillus grade pocket knife. Also some toys; what the hell...

You'll see no heads on the Cam. pins; that's the way they assembled their knives...

Yup! Nice two blade jack; # 4602 to be exact !! Although this was one of those styles that we made in so many ways with so many different handles. This little shell baby is probably late 60's production. In the 80's it was eventually changed to a # 44...This one tells it's age because of the short plump shield where as the newer version's had the long concave shield with the bowtie ends. Colonial used that long style on several knives up to 1998. ::

O.K. here is the comparison of the Camillus made Colonial Old Cutler and
the Heritage made Smith & Wesson.

To sum it up quickly - there is NO comparison! Only thing to point out is that
the Camillus made knife has half stops and the S&W doesn't. The pics will do the talking...

Just so the gang here are all aware that this stag handle knife was made by me at
Heritage Cutler's! This was our first order, private labled for Mr. Stewart Taylor, Taylor Cutlery, a good old friend of mine!

5,000 2-blade, stamped for Smith and Wesson and it had hollow ground stainless steel blades, India stag and solid NS bolster and NS solid pin construction...

We eventually went with stainless steel solid pins for added strength and no pin movement as you might find on NS pin and bolster's. After opening and closing several times, you will see the ring in the bolster, were the pin is. We made all of our knives this way for Heritage.
Large stockman, large Trapper, a Barlow, small stockman, and a small lock-back.

It's the "NCCA 32nd, Annual Extravaganza Knife Show" !!

The show is Saturday, May 3rd from 9-5 pm and Sunday, May 4th from 9-3 pm at the

This will be the first show I've attended in over 10 years and I'll be selling my books and three different styles of Antique knife skeletons similar to the ones I give with my book.

I will be showing a large amount of my personal knife collection consisting of lots of pearls, Mammoth Ivory's, and old Colonials, RAP Cutlers and Heritage knives!!

This is what happens when you send an old toolmaker/CNC Machinest some parts and this is the outcome of those parts! This guy is the real deal!! Self taught cutler and 25 years ago, I would have hired him on the spot for his ability's alone and he would have had his own work bench right next to me in the assembly room at Colonial Knife Company!!

That's not to mention his personallity and enthusiasm for the art of knife making..

Mr. Joe Keating, "ROYAL PINES CUTLERY" is an outstanding gentleman and a well versed cutler, in my opinion!!

I thank God for his friendship every day.

Here's to you Joe, I'm glad I met you!!
