All About Pocket Knives

Kingston Jacks to be precise. These were a Christmas present to myself, and I've been sitting on the pictures for a week, being lazy.

When I got them, they had those wonderful early plastic/boneite/whatever scales on them which had shrunk significantly, to the point at which on had a rocker pin crack. The brass beneath them left a bit to be desired, but it was nothing a good scrubbing couldn't fix . The blades were absolutely fantastic shape. a few spider spots, and some minor pitting along the top edge and on the tangs themselves, but those are minor compared to the overall.

Anywho, Oak burl for the serpentine jack, nearly the last of my block of sycamore lace on the cigar jack, and some kinda simple filework for both. I have a real hard time with 2 spring knives, especially when the secondary spring is thinner. I like my filework somewhat symmetrical, and it's tough to get that when you don't have the same amount of metal to work with. I've gone a bit overboard this past week, and I have enough knives coming in here in the next short while to last me through the winter (I hope) including 2 new brands for me .

I like that oak burl also! I like "exotic" woods like anyone else, BUT there is a lot to be said about American woods being used on knife handles. Oregon Myrtle (aka California Bay), California Buckeye, Manzanita, Desert Ironwood, oaks, pear, apple, yew, and a host of others are just as good as ebony performance wise. Heck, I cut up a few pieces of white oak and used that and it worked good on a fillet knife. Yeah, that came in a load of firewood.

That sycamore looks great - but that oak is really a nice piece - good work!

Those look great - keep working in the shop so that I can live vicariously thru you!....regarding file work on springs of different thicknesses, have you tried to file work the liners instead? It can be quite striking.

Yea, liner filework has been my solution thus far, that's how I treated the GEC #25's after they changed the spring size. Thanks for the comments guys
