Remington pearl scout

Post by knife-nut »

I've only seen a couple of Remington pearl handled scout knives, and they did not have a pattern number on the rear tang. Should'nt they have a RS3334 pattern number? What years were these made? Will you find them with all the different variations in sheilds, canopeners etc.

I know that Remington made scout knives with pearl handles in a R3334, RS3334, R4234 ,R4384 and R4394. The RS3334 was the Official Boy Scouts of America knife. It had a round shield , some of the others had a acorn shield. The R4384 was patterned after the bone R4383 Girl Scouts knife but did not have the Girl Scout etch or shield. You'll find the pearl handled knives closely corresponded with the bone handled knives as far as blade configaration. I would think the main time frame would have been from the early 20's to the early 30's . Although I think it was 1926 before Remington received rights to produce the RS3334. I think 9 Ball is the local scout expert, he may have some corrections or more info to add.

Good morning Folks :D ,

 I am not an "X-spurt" at anything, but living. Learned my lesson on that years ago  .

That said; Remington Collector pretty much covered it.
Go over to eBay and look up the Seller 'shortline10'. He has Official Girl & Boy Scout MOP's on his Me page and also that Case NS Metal Scout we touched on in another thread.

We are going camping, Big meteor shower tonight. Face South ( :D ) about 11 PM EST before the Moon gets too high and look up.

Hello Folks,

Back to Earth and unwound, getting really for the coming season. September through Christmas is the busy season for us, there will be very few "Mental Health Week-Ends" soon. Lots to prepare for and do, just ask the Boss & Square Deal.

I grabbed some old catalogs & a Scout book, tossed them in the truck and this is what I can tell you:

There is a lot of Scout knives & patterns out there, some official and some not. I really only try and look for Official products and knives I would use anymore, a few to trade and a very few I just like. The only MOP knives that were "Official" at National levels I can find are:

Dwight Divine 1925?-1941 Girl Scouts
Remington 1926? Boy Scout RS3334 with Round shield, Tillmans stamped Remington in script and patent number
Hammer Brand 1928-31 Boy Scout Oval shield (I Have Never Seen).
Ulster 1941-1948 Girl Scouts pattern #4066*

Remington, Divine/Ulster and Landers, Frary & Clark got the rights in 1923, surely Remington's were in production at least by 1924 (my guess). As far as I can find LFC or UNIVERSAL did not produce/market a official knife until 1930/31 year. They pumped out a lotta kitchen items during the time, I know that.

To date them a little easier, Remington Acorn Shield used a 1 piece can opener until October 1926. They used Tillmans (two-piece) can opener after that which was patented in 1927.

*So that is an Ulster MOP with shield on Mike's page. I compared it to a GS Bone Eagle Shield in my collection and that confirmed it. Sorry to have called it without being sure first.
Remington Collector: I could not find that GS R4383 at a National level, it could be Official at some other. If you know I would appreicate the knowledge for my notes. Thanks.
