First Custom knife

Post by chevyc10 »

Here is my first real attempt. Its rough but holds an edge, is well balanced, feels good in my hand, and throws pretty good to. Just steel from home depot and a Shoe lace.

Cutting good and holding an edge are the first requirements of a knife. We get all hung up on appearance (I do myself) and forget what a knife is for.

Good start chevy.................

Looks like a good camp knife.

What kind of steel did you use and how did you harden it?

Great start!

the names josh and I dont remember what the steel type is called (just piece of flat stock I had around the shop), and I heated it in a small forge till the blade was glowing red, then oil quenched it.
